What I saw was a menacing presence on the stage. The lead singer looking like a demon straight from hell screamed to the first note of the song Wolf Among Sheep and the crowd went wild. The rest of the band had their faces hidden behind masks from your darkest nightmares and had the attitude to match. Stoning Judas is not your regular jeans and tee shirt metal band. Each member of the band has their own character and unique style that meshes into some pure metal mayhem. I can see Stoning Judas as one of the more up and coming bands if nothing else for their pure shock value.
The music is also just as good as their stage presence energetic, grooving, and melodic. I found myself unable to really to place them in a metal genre which is good because it was fresh and the music was tastefully arranged. The second song of the night was Cast Your Stones it ripped and I found my inner headbanger was coming out . I couldn't help myself from banging my head to fluid groove of this song and left me wanting more when it was over.
One thing that struck me about Stoning Judas was their use of dual harmonies between the guitar team of Malachi and Harm they really showcased that in the song Killing Machine. Killing Machine started out melodic and then turned into pure brutality, then right in the middle of the song a dual harmony lead between Harm and Malachi that brought Killing Machine to a new level. Just when you got into the melody of the dual lead Stoning Judas smacks you in the face with more head banging brutality. I could do nothing but let my head move to the infectious grove of the chords that were assaulting my ears.
Would I see them again? You can count on it! I talked to them after the show wanting a CD and was frustrated to find out they don't have one yet. I was relieved to find out they are going into the studio after the show I saw them at and will have a CD out soon. I'll be one of the first in line to buy it!
If you would like to check out Stoning Judas you can find them at http://www.myspace.com/stoningjudas

Post a CommentI checked these guys out on myspace and Dan I'm sorry but no one can be compared to Slipknot. Slipknot is the best band ever. And what is up with everyone wearing the same mask? Definitely not like Slipknot. The guy in the blue mask and the devil guy are the only ones who look original. Props to them. I congratulate them on keeping metal alive but they are no Slipknot.
