Stop Aging in Your Thirties

Before it Gets a Good Start

Janice Meyer
One day, you jump out of bed and decide to look in the mirror. Then you begin to examine your face more closely. You notice some laugh lines at the sides of your eyes and possibly a few lines around your mouth. Are those wrinkles? You think to yourself. Am I getting wrinkles already?

You may have the beginning of what we call 'wrinkles.' There are some things you can do to stop wrinkles before they are hardly started. Below are some of the remedies you can use to eliminate or minimize those wrinkles now.

1. You can go out and buy some of those expensive beauty products that exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells. Or you can make an exfoliant by mixing baking soda and skin cleanser or lotion (one tablespoon of each). Then scrub your face using gentle, circular movements. Next, rinse your face and apply your favorite moisturizer. Be sure that you exfoliate only two or three times per week.

2. You can also mix the baking soda with sea salt. In a small cup, add one teaspoon baking soda and one-half teaspoon sea salt. The baking soda will act as a polisher, and the sea salt will act as the scrubber. Another recipe for an exfoliant is to mix a tablespoon of baking soda with aloe-vera juice or jel. Use just enough to make a smooth paste. Again, scrub your face in gentle, circular movements. Lastly, rinse your face, tone and moisturize. These homemade exfoliants work just as well as the expensive ones.

3. Be sure to always wear a good sunscreen after you exfoliate, tone and moisturize. Do this in both summer and winter, since although you cannot feel the heat of the sun as much in winter, it can still be very damaging to your skin.

4. Watch what you eat, and get plenty of vitamin c. Forming and maintaining connective tissue in your skin requires a vital portion of vitamin c every day. You need to replenish your intake of vitamin c each day, as it is a water-soluble vitamin that can not be stored in the body.

5. Use an exfoliating sponge or a soft powder puff-like round item with a kind of net or webbed covering. The latter also has a small band on one side for holding and scrubbing.

6. Exercise your face as well as your whole body. I have been doing facial exercises ever since I was about thirty. One exercise is to puff out your cheeks with air as far as possible, then let the air out slowly. Do at least 30 of these every day. There are more exercises that I will cover in a later writing.

7. It is a good idea to wear a night cream labeled for night wear. Do not wear this cream too thick. It works just as well if you spread it rather thin.

8. If you wear a sun screen during the day, you probably do not need a day-time cream or moisturize unless your skin is extremely dry. Remember, the sun in the cold weather can be just as deadly as in summer. No one wants to get skin cancer.

9. If you feel or notice any dry-skin areas on your face, apply a small amount of a good moisturizing face cream on those areas and rub it in until it almost disappears, especially in the morning.

10. Another thing is to wear a sun hat with a wide brim, especially if you are going to be outside for long periods in summer. Also, you should tone, moisturize and apply sunscreen each day when not exfoliating before heading outdoors for any amount of time year round.

I warned my daughters for years about too much sun because I, too, loved the sun! Very worthy advice! :)

Excellent tips! I'm in my early thirties and just starting to fret about wrinkles and such. I wish I had started worrying about it earlier to prevent some of what I already have. Ah well, better late then never.

At 61, I need to keep what skin I have. I never was beautiful, anyway. However, our dear ladyfolk must find this good and useful information, Janet. Not to mention a money-saver.
