Lack of sleep. The majority of adults don't get the 7-9 hours that they need. Each person is different in the amount of sleep they require, but you aren't a teenager anymore and sleeping 4 hours a night just isn't going to cut it! Try going to bed earlier and if you suffer from sleep problems, consider seeing a doctor.
Skipping meals. Is your hectic schedule too busy for breakfast? An astounding number of working adults don't eat breakfast, they just down some coffee and head out the door. This is the worst thing you can do for your body. After a night of fasting, you need that energy boost of a decent meal in the morning. A bowl of cereal or a granola bar isn't that time consuming and it could make all the difference in the world.
Not enough water. Are you one of the majority of Americans who goes around semi-dehydrated each day? This can affect your energy levels drastically and being even mildly dehydrated can slow the brain down. That means you are less efficient at work and even general thinking. More serious dehydration could lead to health problems such as urinary tract infections and more. So drink some water!
Eating the wrong foods. Find yourself craving donuts and other sweet carbs? Those are the wrong foods. Processed carbohydrates like white bread and pasta, along with sugary sweets like chocolate, will send your body on a high, causing your blood sugar levels to rise rapidly. This makes you feel great and energetic for a short time, but the blood sugar level will plummet as fast as it went up, leaving you feeling worn out and exhausted. Instead, eat fruit and whole grain food which will cause more moderated levels of blood sugar, slowly raising energy levels and keeping them there.
Vitamin deficiency. Today's diets tend not to provide everything we need in the way of nutrients. It is quite possible that you are simply not getting all the vitamins and minerals that you need from your daily food. This is especially true if you tend to eat a lot of fast food or have an unvaried diet. A vitamin supplement can help greatly, as can improving the food that you eat.
Weight. Are you at your ideal weight? If you are even a few pounds over, that could be contributing to your tiredness. Try adjusting your exercise routine so you can lose a few pounds. You'll be amazed at how much more energy you have.
Too much stress. An overabundance of stress can also make you feel tired because you are constantly producing adrenaline. This fight-or-flight hormone is meant to only be released when you are in danger and need to react quickly, but in today's stressful environments, we tend to have too much adrenaline running through our system and it can wear a person out.
By reducing your stress, eating properly and getting some exercise, you should find that your tiredness level drops. Add some good nights of sleep into the mix and you ought to feel a whole lot better!
