Stop the Hadron Collider!

France Plays God with Your Life!

D. Calhoun
The Large Hadron Collider, built by The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) bordering France and Switzerland started operation in 2008.

With a series of starts and stops, it has not reached full speed yet, but it will by 2013. It is supposed to either prove or disprove the existence of the theoretical "Higgs bosun" sub-atomic particle called the "God Particle". No other benefit, commercial, economic, or humanitarian is expected to be derived from the super-sized physics experiment. But according to Time magazine, "Critics of the LHC say the high-energy experiment might create a mini black hole that could expand to dangerous, Earth-eating proportions."

As Thomas Edison's experience suggests, experiments end in failure more often than in success. (Edison tried literally thousands of different filaments before his light bulb worked.) What could happen if this experiment failed? Only the collapse into a black hole of all matter in our Earth and Solar system within a matter of seconds, that is what could happen. And with not enough time to even issue a warning.

We literally will not know what hit us. It is hard to imagine whether we will first be pulled apart, atom by atom, or just instantly crushed into a space less than size of a proton. The scientists freely admit that they don't know for sure, only that they think the probability is very low. That's comforting!

I may not be an Einstein, but any fool can tell you that the odds of loosing a simple game of Russian Roulette is also very low - one in six, usually. However, only a fool that does not value his life would play such a game, even at the prospect of gaining riches, because the risk outweighs the benefits. Why would we sit idly by while the French play Russian Roulette with all our lives, and with the possibility of no tangible benefit? Not me! It is sheer suicidal insanity. Stop this infernal Hadron Collider!

Whether you believe in the Bible or not, most students of the humanities will readily admit that myths play a vital function within society, informing us of the human condition. This huge experiment benefiting mainly the ego of a segment of the scientific community brings to mind the Tower of Babble. Nothing good came out of that technological foray into the nature of the existence of God. The possibility exists that no tongue on Earth will be speaking by the end of this scientific leap of faith.

A sobering coincidence is that the Hadron Collider becomes fully operational within close proximity to the infamous and oft-surfacing year, 2012. OK, I know that it is not scheduled to reach full speed operation until the following year 2013. However actually, the Mayan Calendar's end date is not until the end of 2012, on December 21st, which is only a few days before 2013. Who is to say CERN will not move up the date or conduct some full speed trail runs? After all, this group of scientists, politicians, and foundation bureaucrats is only human. They are all subject to the same vagaries, influences, and plan changes as any other organization.

If all human beings value freedom and self-determination instinctively, as most American's do, then perhaps you too do not want your life and the lives of your family, friends, and neighbors, obliterated by a bunch of cold-blooded, crazy European scientists. After dragging us into two world wars and then caving into Islamic Terrorism, why would anyone place their fate in the hands of Europe? Once again, foreign politicians are playing with world destiny. I do not know about you, but no one ever asked me if I was willing to risk my life on someone else's gamble.

As a parting shot let me point out that for years folks have had to listen to liberals prattle about all the money the U.S spends on military and scientific research, which could have been spent on attempting to eradicate world hunger. Now, these armchair social engineers can witness first hand how their beloved socialist first world countries set about wasting billions of Euros that could have been spent on world hunger and other social welfare programs.

  • No one ever asked me if I was willing to risk my life on someone else's gamble.
  • The Mayan Calandar Ends about the exact same time the Hadron Collider reaches full speed.
  • The"experiment might create a mini black hole" that could gobble up the Earth
The risk: end of all life as we know it. The benefits: nothing practical, only a better theoretical understanding of the Universe. Analysis: Not worth you risking my life!
