Hives are irritating red bumps that appear on your skin and itch like crazy. The itch is so annoying people will run to drug stores or their doctor for immediate relief. But prescriptions and over the counter medications often have annoying side effects like drowsiness. So, although the itching has stop you need to lie down and take a nap. Also, cortisone can do more harm than good if you have a case of chronic hives. There are a number of natural and alternative treatments that can help stop the itch and cure the hives.

Try hydrotherapy as a natural treatment by taking a nice warm shower, which can help to stop the itching. Warm showers release histamine that relieves itching. Take a warm shower for 10 to 15 minutes when you feel the itching becoming intense. Another treatment is homeopathy. Homeopathy can help stop hives by taking 200C potency of the various treatments. You can either take the capsules or for a more effective method, you can dissolve the pellets in a cup of water and take a teaspoon of the solution four to six times a day. The following homeopathy treatments work best to stop hives. Take Apis if the hives are red, burn or itch intensely. Take Natrum muriaticum for chronic hives, especially if they are white. Take Rhus toxicodendron for very large red hives with some itching. Take Urtica urens for hives on the scalp and other places that burn and itch intensively. Take Arsenicum album for burning hives and chilled feelings.

Taking 500 mg of quercetin twice a day helps to clear up the hives and stop the itching. Quercetin is found in onions, apples, and leafy vegetables and is a natural antihistamine. This natural treatment really works to help stop the itching. Apply mint ice cubes to the skin to relieve the itching. Mix two teaspoons of crushed fresh mint leaves, pour boiling water over the leaves, cover, and let it sit for five minutes. Strain the liquid, pour it into an ice cube tray, and freeze. Then take the cubes out, put them in a freezer bag, cover the bag with a paper towel or cloth and apply it to the hives. Flower essences can help stop the hives. Add four or five drops of the flower essences to a glass of water and drink once a day until the itching stops. Taking some sandalwood essential oil helps to stop the itching and provides a soothing sensation to your skin. Add 20 drops of sandalwood essential oil to one ounce of a coconut or almond oil and apply it to the skin every three or four hours.
