Stop Making the Clothing Companies Rich

Jimmy Smith
These days you go to the store to buy a good pair of name brand jeans and it's between $50 and $80. Or a t-shirt with "Tommy Hilfiger" or "Enyce" on it and it's between $20 to $30. It's completely ridiculous that just because an article of clothing says something on it, that people have to pay so much extra for it.

A pair of shoes, a good pair of "name brand" shoes usually will run you over $100. Really though, what is the difference between a pair of Nikes and a pair of some off-brand no-name shoes? Really, it's just the name, after all a pair of shoes is a pair of shoes and a shirt is a shirt and jeans are jeans. It's down right ridiculous. Even underwear with someones name on it cost more. It's really a viscous game these companies are playing with the public. There really is not much difference. At least not the price they are asking. It's really not that much more of a difference, just a name.

So now that we've established that an article of clothing is just an article of clothing and nothing more, no matter whose name is on it. So what do we do? Instead of getting sucked into these games of "not being in-style" if you don't wear their brand, why not create your own style? That is where a true fashion sense lies. Buy articles of clothing without anybodies name on them or some off-brand that nobody ever heard of. Why should it even matter? It's all a marketing ploy anyway. Most people really don't have the money to throw away on these "name brand" clothes. As for the people that do, god bless them, but the rest of the public is getting sucked into this. It's literally taking food off the table in the average working class American home.

There is nothing wrong with going to salvation army, and picking up stuff there. This writer actually picked up a near mint condition Jason Kidd and Lebron James jerseys for under four bucks each. There are definitely gems to be found in the thrift stores. Instead of paying $30 for that t-shirt that says "Roca-Wear" or "Nautica" why not get six plain white or black or whatever color tees. Why not make your own designs and write whatever you want on them. Better yet buy your own machine that prints out letters on t-shirts and sell them. Don't become a victim of "fashion". Who really cares what people think, by being smart and investing your money in smarter things you become smarter then the people who feel like they need that shirt that says "Polo".
