Why Meditation is so Important

Cory Mitchell
I believe meditation is so important because it moves us into experience, and out of words. Words are used in the meditations, but it is the experience of it that brings us the reward. Words cause us much harm, especially when we use them in the wrong way. Others use words against us, and we use words against others and our self. To have reprieve from the bombardment of suffering that words cause us is to move away from this experience and open ourselves up to a different possibility. Words are the constant chatter in our minds that tell us to do things we don't feel right about, or convince we can't do something we feel we should. Meditation moves us back to feeling, and the more we meditate the calmer our mind, the less constant chatter, and thus the more we operate on our feelings and emotions. Yet, now we respond to our feelings in a healthy way, without interference from the voice or the words within us which we know very well do not always produce the best for us.

This is not to say we will not use words. Of course we will, it is a great joy to socialize. But meditation quietens the nagging voice in mind which often prevents us from leading our ideal life. To hear this voice even a little less in our waking hours is to recover a small piece of heaven.

Meditation is a simple gateway to fulfilling all that we are capable of, and more importantly enjoying what we already have and what is all around us. It brings us peace during the meditation, and the more we partake of it, the more it filters into our everyday providing peace at all times.
