Stop Procrastinating - You Want to Get Better, so Do Something About It!

Kevin Smith
At some point most people realize that they need improvement in certain areas of life and are much more advanced in other areas of life. When a person does come to the conclusion that they need that improvement and have determined where they are in that certain area of life they usually don't know what to do or where to go for help. This can cause some confusion, and needless to say is an obstacle that usually causes people to procrastinate in improving themselves.

Procrastination is one of the biggest things that cause people to not reach their goals. Procrastination in other words is known as laziness and is a human weakness. A great way to deal with procrastination is to do something you know you should do, when you really don't feel like doing it. The first step to strengthening yourself in areas that need improvement is knowing what your weaknesses are. One must also know their strengths. A lot of times our strengths and weaknesses balance themselves out and cause us to be the mediocre person we are today. The best way one could strengthen any weakness would be to face what ever situations or obstacles head-on that challenges those weaknesses.

Something that really helps in the beginning stages of improvement, is to not match yourself up against anyone else. Judge yourself only because matching yourself up with someone who is a master or "damn good" in that area that you need improvement in, will cause you to not feel up to the challenge to begin with. For example, don't try to match yourself up with Michael Jordan if you're trying to improve your basketball skills. You're not going to break any of Michael Jordan's NBA records. If you're a singer, don't compare yourself to legends like Michael Jackson. It would be a great accomplishment, but you're more than likely not going become as popular or sell as many records as he has. Don't misunderstand, it is always good for someone to think big, but you don't want to think too big, too soon. Being realistic will get you further because when you reach small goals they add up and turn into big goals. Self-improvement is based on yourself, not everyone else, and it's not as complicated as some people sometimes make it seem.

If you've looked around for advice in the self-improvement area, you've probably read and lots of theories and scientific stuff, but it actually is not that complicated. As with anything the more complicated things seems the less we try to pursue them. It's actually very simple. Whether we admit it to others or not, we know what our strengths and our weaknesses are, and as long as we can admit them to ourselves we can improve on our weaknesses. The key here is to challenge yourself in those areas of weakness and not wait until we are in the real world where our weaknesses can be exposed and cause us embarrassments. Once you've figured out what your weaknesses are challenge them. Fight them. Put them to the test. Practice makes perfect and what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
