Stop Using Your Clothes Dryer and You Will Not Only Save Money, You'll Make Some Too!

Are you looking for ways to save money or make money. I like to look at this as a way to make money as it gives me more incentive. As our family tries to dig their way out of debt created by an illness not covered by any plan, I have discovered a myriad of ways to eek out more from our earnings. The top money maker has been not using the dryer. My husband said on occasion that he liked clothes hung out to dry. I'm thinking, yeah, in my spare time. Unbelievable as it may seem it has very evident results.

I stumbled upon this visible moneymaker when our dryer was eating and staining all our clothes as they were getting caught in the drum. I called a local appliance repair location and was promptly ripped off. As I was waiting for the repair to happen and a specific part to be located etc. I was without options and started hanging the laundry out to dry. We did not have an emergency fund at the time so we had to do without a dryer until we were able to obtain a new (used) dryer. This took place over the course of 2 months during which time a full electric billing cycle occurred. The decrease in our bill was over $50.00. I was utterly shocked as I told my husband and of course he said I told you so. Whatever!

I totally detested doing this prior to the great saving but I got over it as I now see the clothes hanging on the clothes line as dollar bills. I just needed a new perspective. So, I have continued on for over 2 years of hanging out laundry. I am utterly amazed each time we receive our electric bill. This past billing was down $34.00 from the previous month. It probably would have been more but we had used our air conditioner for several days.

So, if your looking for a full proof way to save your hard earned dollars this is the place to start. We heat with propane but we use a lot of electric in winter with animals and heat lamps and use our plug in electric heaters. In the summer we used the air conditioner freely in 2006 and 2007 so we didn't see a huge savings but if I had been using the dryer it would have been a much larger bill.

I believe this is the easiest thing I have ever done to make a buck. I'm off to hang laundry. Is there life after laundry?

I like the way you associated the laundry with money hanging on the line. That's inspiring to me. I need to look for ways to cut back too. Nice work!
