Stop Wearing Hideous Pajamas to Class

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan for comfort. I enjoy getting done with my classes or work and hopping right into a nice soft pair of pajamas for the rest of the night while I am on my computer or watching TV.

I probably wear my pajamas more than the average person since I do not spend my entire evening at home in a pair of jeans and the nice blouse I was wearing earlier that day. Probably my favorite pair of pajama pants are a pair I got for $3 at Savers. It originally was from Victoria Secret. Sometimes I even tell all my friends, "It's a pajama day!"

I have "Pajama Days" when it's raining out or maybe it's cold outside and all I want to do is bake or watch TV, or catch up on some online gaming.

I normally do not wear T-shirts when I go out to town, but a dress shirt instead. So when I get home for the day, I put on a soft pair of pants and a T-shirt. It sounds nice, doesn't it?

Well I am almost ready to graduate and I have seen plenty of people going to class in their pajamas. The first portion of my college years my classes were more towards the afternoon so I did not notice this before.

Now that most of my classes are in the morning, I have seen more and more people with a coffee in their hands and walking to class in their pajamas.

This can be okay to some extend. Some people's version of pajamas are different. Some ladies like to wear silky pajamas and some guys may wear nothing but their boxer shorts.

Others, like myself, may be more into the flannel pants or whatever they can find at Old Navy.

I think that the college scene is probably the only place where you can run around in your pajamas and get away with it. People really don't think too much about a person wandering from dorm building to building in their pajamas going to the cafeteria, or even...class.

A college campus is like a community of people all set out for the same goal, to graduate. For the most part, everyone is around the same age as well. Many times on some campuses, everyone seems to know each other.

So is wearing pajamas perfectly acceptable to class?

To some extent, I am sure it is okay. I would think a professor would rather have his students show up to class in their pajamas than to sleep in or be late.

Why do some college students wear their pajamas to class? Well, I think one reason is because they really don't have time to get ready in the morning. A lot of students stay up really late either studying or hanging out with their friends. They are lucky if they can wake up at 8am and crawl out of bed to make it to the 8:15 class. So instead of getting showered up and beautified before class, they just go the way they are. Then when they are done with class they can either take a shower and get ready for the rest of the day, or some actually go right back to bed for a couple hours more.

The other reason is because pajamas should be more comfortable than your daily wear. Sitting in a classroom can be really tedious, and wearing uncomfortable clothing can only make that worse.

So am I against students wearing pajamas to class or even pajamas anywhere? Yes and no. I think it depends on the campus and where you are going. Some campuses span all over the city and you have to take a bus from building to building. I think in a situation like this where you are standing, waiting for the bus and going out into the other public people shouldn't be wearing their pajamas. It's a sense of taking caring of yourself and looking like you do actually care.

On the other hand, some campuses are very small and if you were to go to class in your pajamas the only people that would be seeing you are professors and other students. This is to be more acceptable.

What I do not accept is people's choice of what kind of pajamas they think they can go out in. I saw a guy today who was wearing a huge pair of Mario 1UP mushroom pajama pants. They were green, and the shirt he was wearing was red and it had a completely different theme going on then his pants. It had a terrible clashing look about it.

So if you are going to wear your pajamas to class, at least have pajamas that look decent. There are nice looking pajamas out there. Keep the hideous pajamas at your parents for visits, or on sick days when you plan to not walk the paths to class in. It looks sloppy and can make others see you as if you really don't care.

When in doubt, slip a pair of jeans on and head out. A pair of jeans seems to match everything.
