Stopping Breakage in Natural Hair

Learning to Deal with Our Natural Hair

The number one reason that natural hair breaks is because of a lack of moisture. Natural unprocessed hair needs to be moisturized daily and deep conditioned once to twice a week. A natural remedy that can be used is vegetable glycerin and water mix. You can buy vegetable glycerin at basically any drug store. You mix one-fourth glycerin to three fourths water and spray this in your hair everyday. You will notice your hair is softer and very moisturized. It's also great at defining curls. All this moisture will help with breakage in natural hair.

Another reason a lot of natural women receive breakage is because some naturals use too much protein. As naturals we do not need as much protein as our relaxed counterparts. It is actually very rare for us to need protein so lay off on the products that have protein listed on the ingredients. Too much will break your hair off.

As for great moisturizing conditioners a good one to use would be black strip molasses. You just add it to your hair and let it sit for an hour and then rinse the molasses out. Most woman notice there hair stops breaking after one use. This isn't just for natural hair. This is good for relaxed hair and even caucasian. Everyone can benefit less breakage from this remedy.

Naturals also receive breakage because of our tight hair texture. Though some natural can have looser hair textures. Our hair tends to be tougher to comb but doesn't have to be that way. Firstly never comb dry hair, this causes breakage. Only comb hair that is wet and full of conditioner. Also stop being so rough on your hair when combing it and take your time to prevent breakage. After you wash your hair put some yogurt in your hair. Use plain fat yogurt. Do not buy the non-fat or it will not work. This is good at stopping breakage because it makes your hair easier to comb and detangle. You could have the knikiest hair texture but the yogurt allow the comb to just glide through your hair. So far I haven't found anyone where this hasn't worked. Before you start to detangle your hair allow the yogurt to sit in it for fifteen minutes. After detangling your hair you will notice less breakage than usually.

If you follow all of these simple steps I guarantee that you will notice less breakage in your hair.

Do you rinse the yogurt out?

I wish I had found this article about a month ago.I thought I had done my homework but apparently not enough.I would have been more prepared for the shedding.I accidentally stumbled upon this while looking for more articles on how to care for natural hair. I'd been transitioning for about 5 months with braids and wigs. I finally decided to do my BC and the result was a TWA. I loved it. Because I'm over here in Iraq I've experienced excessive dryness and and there aren't many products for "my kinda hair". This has resulted in shedding and now my hair has thinned out around the edges. At the moment I'm using "hair grease" that contain petroleum, paraben, and all the other scalp clogging heaviness that my hair doesn't need. I've searched online, found and ordered natural products from Oyinhandmade, Qhemet Biologics, and Naturallymimi's to help me out. They also have yogurt over here but no molasses so I'm going to try that out too until my products get here. Thanks again for the article.
