You know Diets do not work. How many times have you gone on a dieting journey to see immediate results and then after a few months see those lost pound piling up in your body weight? AS yourself, I have been there, lost 20-30 pounds with the most popular diets only to watch how I regained those lost pounds and some times more. The last time I have kept my 10 lost pounds is when I changed the way I looked at weight loss and dieting. I believe you have to start living by stopping dieting.
What I am talking here in to look at weight loss as a lifestyle change. This is nothing out of the earth or some mystical guru-like thought. It is just changing the way to see your weight loss experience. Let's examine some differences between "dieting" and a lifestyle change.
In the lifestyle change approach you are the center, you will receive all the benefits, all is about you. Dieting is all about the diet. It is only the calories you take in, the calories you take out, the calorie deficit, the number of pounds you lose. The diet mentality do not care about you, just the results of the diet. In the dieting approach you are a robot who uses rules to lose weight no matter how you feel. In the lifestyle change approach you have to know yourself, evaluate how you fell, do not follow rules but center in what you really want. Believe me the only way to lose weight and keep the lost weight in through the lifestyle change approach
In the dieting approach change in eating and exercise patterns is temporary. Once you get there (your weight goal) you lose perspective and go back to unhealthy eating and sedentary habits. Sometimes, dieting mentality is so exhausting that you throw in the towel early and do not reach you r goals. On the contrary a lifestyle change implies a permanent change in your relationship with yourself, your eating habits, and your level of physical activity. Again, you are the center of the lifestyle approach and not the diet per se.
When you diet you render yourself to external tools and techniques (the diet) that determine your behavior. You rely your responsibility to the diet and not to yourself. You can always blame the diet and not yourself if something goes wrong with your dieting experience. In the lifestyle change approach you rely on yourself to decide how you want to feel and what to do about your life, your physical exercise, your relationship with food. You are ultimately responsible for yourself and not the dieting technique. So Start living (and living well I may add) by Stopping dieting.
