Storage Containers You Should Always Recycle

Cheryl Dennett
Nowadays, you are considered a hoarder if you do not throw away containers the you buy food in from the grocery store. But, with money becoming tight for most people, everyone needs to look for ways to save money. Here are some containers that you should never throw away and that you can reuse for many things.

First on this list are those plastic ice cream containers. The five gallon containers are the best to save. These can be used to store all types of dry goods. These can include cereal, flour and sugar. Storing this type of food in a plastic container will help keep them fresh longer. The smaller examples may be used to store items that are not used often, but often have a partial bag left. These might include brown sugar, powdered sugar and coconut. By using these plastic bowls as storage, these items will be fresh much longer and you will save money by not being required to buy an entire bag each time you need a cup of this or a teaspoon of that.

Whipped topping containers are also very handy to have around for storage. These medium sized plastic bowls can solve many problems easily and cheaply. They can be used to store frozen fruit when your recipe does not require an entire container. This size plastic bowl is also handy to use to store leftovers in the refrigerator, instead of throwing them out. They are very handy to take to work for lunch the day after you prepare them for your dinner at home. This will help save on food costs.

There are many items that you bring home from the supermarket in glass jars. They come in a large variety of sizes. Because of the quality of the sealed lids, these recycled jars can be used to carry soup or sauces to a potluck dinner. They can also be used as storage for non-food items you may need to keep handy on your storage shelves. Nail the lids to the underside of a storage shelf and you have an out-of-the-way storage device for items in your garage or basement. Recycled glass jars can also be used in craft projects to be given as gifts or used in your own home.

Cottage cheese containers, which are usually about sixteen ounces, are another convenient storage item. This size will hold a serving of soup or other leftover, which can also be used as tomorrow's dinner or lunch.

Another type of storage units that can be recycled and come in very handy are baby food jars or plastic containers. These can be used to hold salad dressings for your lunch at work. They are also handy for storing craft supplies that are very small and hard to keep if you do not use them all at once.

There are many uses for the plastic and glass containers that you bring home from the supermarket. This is just a very short list of possibilities. But, hopefully, these tips will get you started saving money and recycling items that still have many uses left.
