Storage Solutions for Your Home Office

Brian Jones
I work from home. I run a number of different businesses in my home office. Being a former business consultant, it has been impressed in me the importance of saving all documentation, receipts, and paperwork of all sorts in connection to the business. Even if you will never need them again, you have to have them. Better safe than sorry. There are a multitude of storage solutions for your home office documents. If your business is steady and growing, there is no way you can or would want to keep them in your office. They just create clutter and make it hard to find your most relevant data. You are best off using one of these five top portable storage solutions to keep your home office as productive as possible while retaining all critical paperwork.

The first and best solution for portable storage is only available online from Stacks and Stacks. This is my favorite and I use them over everything else. The Recycled Cardboard Document Box that they offer is top of the line and there is nothing better. Although they are paper, they are made from 100% recycled product. They can be used for any sort of documents and come in silver or black. The dimensions of these boxes are 3 ¾"H x 9" W x 13 ½" L. They are stackable and attractive.

SpaceSavers.com offers some great solutions for portable document storage as well. My favorite by them is the 4 drawer storage by Sterilite. Available for $99.99, this unit works great in the garage or attic and makes your documents easily available. The drawers slide smoothly and hold a heavy load. The Sterilite 4 drawer unit stands 35 ½" tall and 20"wide x 18 3/4" deep.

Sterlite also offers a great storage solution when your space is at a premium. Use that unused space underneath your bed with the Sterlite Underbed Storage Boxes. They come in 66 quart and 74 quart sizes. These boxes open one side at a time with a unique center hinge design and are see-through to help with quick identification. The 66 quart boxes also come with wheels for easy movement.

You can't go wrong with Rubbermaid. Even their basic storage totes will do the trick and they are some of the most durable around. Their Roughneck branded totes come in 14, 18, 21, and 22 gallon sizes. Documents can be stacked horizontally or vertically and you know they will be safe and protected with Rubbermaid.

The last and one of the most popular storage solutions comes from Office Depot. The Office Depot Brand Quick Set-Up Recycled Storage Boxes with String & Button Closure are some of the best storage boxes available. They are sturdy and have built-in handles for easy lifting. The cardboard is basic white with blue trim and while not weatherproof, they will help in your home organization.

These storage solutions are the best out there for your home office in keeping all of your old records for storage. These will keep your documents safe for the five years required by the IRS and longer.
