Store Brand Products Compared to Name Brand Products

Is Name Brand Worth the Extra Money?

In this economic downturn, people all over are searching for ways to save money. One huge way to save money is right at your local grocery store. Store brand items are usually provided at any grocery store in your area. Compared to name brand items, store brand items are usually cheaper and taste similar.

I once believed that store brand food was cheaper because it was worse in quality and taste. This opinion quickly changed when I moved out on my own and had to pay for my own groceries. Most store brand food tastes exactly the same as the name brand stuff. The only difference is the label. With name brand food, you're paying for just that, the name. You're paying for the advertising and fancy packaging. Store brand food skips those steps and sticks with the simple packaging and the same tasting food.

Granted, not all store brand items are similar to name brand. There are still those name brand products that I will always buy, no matter what. But once you explore all the different store brand products and compare them to the same name brand items, you will learn what tastes the same and what you prefer.

Foods like cereal, milk, eggs, and ice cream are all the same whether it be a name brand or store brand product. However, keep in mind when grocery shopping, always compare prices no matter what. Find out what your quantity is compared to your price and figure out which is the best deal. Sometimes, the store will have a sale where the name brand product is a better deal than the store brand. Always stay on your toes and don't just grab the first low priced item you see. Do some research and determine the best bang for your buck.

I find now, almost every grocery product I buy is store brand, excluding a few items. People will disagree and say store brand products don't taste as good. I believe this could all be in the head. If you taste it thinking it will be bad, it most likely will be.

Keep an open mind next time you run to the grocery store. This will make a huge improvement for your wallet and will provide some extra spending money for paying off those bills or having a fun, family outing.
