Stories of My Childhood and the Mischief I Made

Amber Gray
Now that I am grown and have my own children, I am eternally grateful to my own mother that she did not tire of my antics and put me up for adoption. Watching my children grow in it's self is an amazing thing but it also bring back memories of my childhood.

I have a 3-year-old daughter and a four-month-old son. My son does not make mischief yet but my daughter sure does. She gets into everything and has an attitude all of her own. Watching her brings back memories of my own childhood and some of the thing I did to drive my mother crazy

Growing up I had two younger brothers. We were all within five years of each other. This provided entertainment in itself. I had these to younger brother who thought I was god and would do anything I told them to. This of course resulted in emergency room trips and quite a few groundings. One of the most memorable was when I was about 8 years old and my younger brother was five.

We were playing in our basement as we always did when it was to hot outside. I had recently conned my mom into buying me some junk jewelry at a rummage sale. One of the items was a necklace made of tiny sea shells that was broke within a day or two. Being a kid and doing what kids do I decided the best place for these seashells was my nose where I promptly placed then. Of course, my younger brother wanted to do it to only his nose was much smaller and the seashell was stuck. Mom was not impressed

She had to call my fathers boss and have her take us to the emergency room. Once there the shell was removed and we returned home. I cannot remember what had happened after but I am sure I probably got into some trouble.

One time my cousins and I who were about four at the time came up with a brilliant idea after walking an old black and white television show. We were upset with our parents, for what I can't remember, but we decided we would run away and start new lives where we would find better parents who would let us do as we pleased. On the television, the children had disguised themselves by covering themselves with mud so instead of white children, they would appear to be black.

To four year olds, this was the best idea ever and completely foul proof so we found a mud puddle and covered ourselves from head to foot. We then proceeded walking down the street when we were promptly caught and given bathes. Our parents were not impressed in the least.

There was much more mischief I created in my youth I am sure but these are the most memorable. Now looking back as a mom, I feel bad for the things I put my mother through and as I said before eternally grateful, she put up with me. The saying goes that your own children will be ten times worse than you were as a child so I am sure my own children will drive me just as crazy as I drove my own mother but at least it gives us some funny stories to tell.
