Storm Hits Hard, Classes and Flights Canceled

Valentines Day is for lovers, cards, gifts flowers, and chocolates all showing your feelings for the ones closest to us. This day will be remembered. Blowing snow an sleet glazed windshields and roads across the Northeast and the Midwest on Wednesday. Messing up Valentines Day flower deliveries and wrecking plans.

The storm grounded hundreds of flights and forced the closing of schools and businesses from Kentucky to Maine. Many of those stuck at home had no heat or lights because of blackouts that affected more than a quarter-million customers. About 12 deaths were blamed on the huge storm. Blizzard warnings were posted for parts of New Hampshire Massachusetts and Maine.

The storms cold, snow, sleet and rain made life difficult for everyone, it was a convenient excuse for husbands and boyfriends who forgot to send flowers. Some delivery trucks got stuck on the roads. Flowers delivered to offices were turned away because most businesses were closed. Customers has to change their orders to have flowers delivered to homes instead of places of work.

In upstate New York, more than a foot of snow had fallen by midday, and up to 3 feet of snow was possible in places. Vermont State Governor ordered all non essential employees home after noon, the New york Capital in Albany came to a new halt and some Pennsylvania state workers were told to stay in. Maine's Governor declared a state of emergency to ensure deliveries of heating oil, while New York Governor activated the National Guard.

Hundreds of flights were canceled at the New York's Cities areas, three major airports in Albany, Boston, and Washington. The huge weather storm was also blames for 3 deaths, while over 300,000 people lost power. Stiff wind piled the snow into drifts as high as 9 feet in places. The storm is dangerous and people were told to stay in. Valentines Day for 2007 will go down in the records books, snow, powerless and death.
