The programs offered are varied and rich, and are the artistic jewels of the center. From children's story times and adult travel presentations, to art experts bringing their expertise to teach and share, the Community House has covered probably every group or interest in recent years.
One of its more active programs revolves around the Storytellers Guild of the Community House. Its mission statement is: Enriching the lives of children through the art and love of storytelling.
Following a successful fall kick-off that was focused on tips, stories and techniques for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade, as well as a field trip to Book Beat and visit from a DIA mural expert, the year has been a productive one.
Coming up for 2011, the guild's schedule lists a presentation on India in January, a February exploration into the award winners of children's books, including recognition of Newberry, Caldecott and Coretta Scott King recipients. March offers a foray into cooking and children's cookbooks. April includes a tour of the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, and May will deliver the Storytellers Guild fundraiser. Spring will end with a June salad luncheon, held off-location in a private home.
Stay tuned for more community house information. In the meantime, call 248-644-5832 or visit http://www.communityhouse.com/getInvolved/interestGroups/documents/STG%20Programs%202010-2011.pdf.
