Stouffer's Chicken with Rice and Broccoli Casserole

Seamus McDermott
I guess my tastebuds are biased against things that taste like they were cooked inside of a garbage can. It seems to me that foods sold in the frozen food aisle are some kind of abomination and general irritant to the tastebuds. Also, they can't be good for you. They're loaded with preservatives and a lot of processed foods. Still, this is America and the foods in the frozen food aisle can serve as a work-night saviour. Stouffer's used to be the kings of frozen food, but again, I stress used to be. Lately what has been offered from the company is something akin to hell.

I love chicken. I love rice. I also love broccoli. Still, I don't like Stouffer's Chicken, Rice and Broccoli cassarole, with cheese. It just doesn't gel as a food product. There are numerous things wrong with this product.

Taste:
I experienced something new with Stouffer's Chicken, Rice and Broccoli cassarole. I experienced a dish that had no taste whatsoever when you put it into your mouth, but had an extremely awful aftertaste. I literally cannot describe the taste left after swallowing a piece of this dish. All I can say here is that no matter how much water I drank, it just didn't seem to wash the taste out of my mouth. If I had to describe it, try three week old chicken found lurking at the back of your refrigerator.

Texture:
The best I can say for texture is that it was like a sponge. It bounced back with every fork jab I laid into it. And it also felt weird during chewing and swallowing. The broccoli would come out in awful ways and the cheese would be burnt on top and remain cold throughout the rest of the dish. The chicken in the dish was definitely processed and you could just tell by the texture.

Overall:
I cannot recommend that anyone buy this frozen entree. If you have, then send Stouffer's a request for your money back.

There's was also one other problem with this dish. No matter how long I cooked it, nor at what temperature, it remained cold in the middle. It would be piping hot, then burnt on the outside, but remain cold in the middle. This added to my overall dislike of this product. I wish this review could be more thorough, but I ended up tossing this out that night and ordering a cheese pizza. This product should be pulled, because it just isn't any good.

  • Stouffer's used to be the kings of frozen meals, but no longer are.
  • No matter how long or what temperature it was cooked at, it remained cold in the middle.
  • It had no taste when first swallowing, but left a truly terrible aftertaste.

I have not tried this. From reading your review I guess I haven't missed anything. Thanks for saving me some money on something that isn't so great.

    Take care,

    Rae
