I purchased this frozen, boxed Stouffer's lasagna on sale for about $5, which is a relatively good price for a family size lasagna entrée. I couldn't prepare fresh, home made lasagna for much less than that, so it was a very good bargain for me. The normal price is a few dollars more, so I probably wouldn't buy it unless it was on sale.
Stouffer's Family Size Lasagna came in a 38 ounce package (about 2 pounds, 6 ounces), which turned out to be the perfect size for my family of two adults, a six-foot tall teenager, and two small children. Along with a salad and garlic bread this made a tasty and relatively easy to cook dinner for my family. Everyone was satisfied, including my two younger children who are extremely picky eaters.
How did it taste? It was really good. I loved the meat sauce, and they didn't skimp on the cheese. The only thing I can say in a negative light about this lasagna is that the noodles were a bit thick and chewy for my taste, but not enough to dampen my overall satisfaction too much. While my family seemed to enjoy it, I don't think it was spectacular for anyone. There were no complaints, however, which is always a good sign with my kids.
The cooking time was a bit long, over an hour and a half, but extremely simple preparation made up for that minor irritation, which consisted basically of opening the box and popping it in the oven. The lasagna turned out perfectly. It was heated through consistently, with the mozzarella cheese melted just right in a thick layer over the top.
The other option was to cook it in the microwave, which would have been much quicker, at about 35 minutes. This is a great for those who have less time to cook, and I plan to try it this way the next time I decide to buy frozen lasagna.
While not as good as home made, it was still very good. I would recommend Stouffers Family Size Lasagna with Meat and Cheese to any family that likes lasagna, and I would definitely purchase it again.
