Straighten Your Hair Without the Stress

It is no secret that blow drying and straightening your hair can leave it dry and damaged, not to mention you do not always get the desired result. But if you know how to straighten your hair properly as well as keep it properly moisturized and taken care of, you will find the hair straightening process to be a lot less stressful - for you and your hair.

Straighten Your Hair With A Flat Iron

01. Before you straighten your hair, you should wash and condition it. Use shampoo and conditioner specific to your hair type, and rinse with cold water.

02. Use a towel to blot your hair dry, and then let it air dry the rest of the way. You can blow dry it if you must, but that would put extra stress and damage on it, so try to avoid it if you can.

03 Gather your hair into several sections, and pin all but one section to the top of your head. You will straighten one section at a time, starting with the bottom layer of the hair and working towards the top .

04. Take out a small part of the first section and start as close to the roots as you can get. Move the flat iron slowly down your hair at a steady pace. Do not stop or let it linger too long in one place. You can run the flat iron over the section of hair again if needed.

05. Do small chunks of hair in each section until all of it is straightened. Then, run a large tooth comb through all of it and style as you wish.

06. Do not put chemicals in your hair before straightening it. This will only damage it more than necessary. Leave the chemicals (hair spray, etc) for the very end.

Straighten Your Hair With A Blow Dryer

If you are straightening your hair with a blow dryer, follow the same general idea.

01. Wash and condition your hair before hand, and rinse with cold water. Use products specific to your hair type.

02. Blot your hair dry with a towel, but do not rub it dry. This puts unnecessary stress on your hair, which can damage it.

03. Like with the flat iron process, pin sections of your hair to the top of your head. Start with bottom layer section of the hair.

04. Point the blow dryer down, and only move it in one direction - from top to bottom, root to end. Follow the blow dryer with a large tooth comb.

05. Dry each section until all of your hair is dry, and then style as you so desire.
