He was walking along through dark streets, apparently a slum of some sort, which had stairways leading down. The more he tried to find his way out , the more twisted and sinister the streets seemed to be. The buildings, the houses were all dark. The street lamps, rather than giving light, made "darkness visible". The street signs were names he had never heard of: Sanger, Singer, Sagan, Stalin. Every way he went, he kept going down! Finally he would wake up by a sheer act of will. Then the next time, the tenth time, it was different!
This time it would not let up! He tried very hard! But this time he could not wake up! He was impelled to go on and on, deeper and darker, deeper and darker! This time he ended up at a dead end, surrounded by towering, featureless black walls, van Noir was nearly at his wits end!
And then, miraculously this nice pleasant young fellow showed up. "Hello there! You look sorta distressed. Can I help you?" He explained his predicament and that he just wanted to get out of there. The young fellow seemed so sympathetic and understanding! "I see! I see! Now calm yourself. I'll do everything I can to help." He paused, looked thoughtful and then he said "You just want to get out of here. Right? Well, it's very simple!"
A door appeared, and the fellow said "Right this way! Follow me." They both stepped into a dimly lit corridor. The door slammed behind them. The corridor got brighter and brighter and in the midst of dancing flames, the nice young fellow turned into a grinning devil with horns and a tail and said "Welcome to Hell! A very warm welcome indeed! He broke into a powerful, ringing, pealing, maniacal laughter!

Post a CommentAs usual you are a master of subtly hints that makes the reader think and tryt to decipher just what message you are trying to get across to the public, good job
Yes David, your light bulb is comparable. However this expression is an allusion to Milton's Paradise Lost, Book one, where Satan is cast down "to bottomless perdition, there to dwell in adamantine chains and penal fire...". The fires of Hell do not so much illuminate things as "make darkness visible".
Well, at least he DID wake up! Dreams of dying or going to Hell are disturbing. I've had a few of those. Slightly off subject, I've had plenty of dreams where a lamp would be on, but while the bulb was glowing, it wouldn't illuminate the nearby area. I wonder if that's anything like the "darkness visible" you mentioned.
wow indeed! well written :)
Yikes!!!! And I thought I had bad dreams!
What a dream...and I wonder what a nightmare bin Lauden is having right now!
awesome writing:)
Yes, Linda, Noir does mean black. Remember my disclaimer: "Any resemblance to persons living or dead, shouldn't be!"
Well, Linda, Van Noir spelled that way, with a capital V, represents the guy who has a vendetta against me. Spelled in lower case, an the abortionist doctor who killed thousands. This story is sort of in memory of the Holocaust which the shallow minded say "It must not happen again!" while we force feed the Darwinism which did so much to inspire it, to high school and college students without the option of explaining there are other ways of looking at it. Freedom of thought is not politically correct!
Well done!!
