Strange Items on Ebay - What Will People Buy Next?

Brenda Keener
Ebay is a virtual treasure trove of strange things being sold for overvalued prices. Lately, so are the TV commercials. Today, we saw a commercial for a "Miracle" metallic bracelet being sold for $39 that claimed to cure all ills. And the Virgin Mary's image has been seen in the shadow of a home.

What's next?

My husband, amidst fits of laughter, thought it would be funny to sell "Magical Dog Turds". Of course, the type of magic would vary with the breed of the dog. Siberian Husky turds, polished and sold in their very own souvenir boxes, would be used to treat those with lowered body temperatures and fear of freezing. Collie turds could be sold to firemen and those who rescue others for a living, and Poodle turds to those who want to be beautiful.

I am tempted to write a marketing pitch for such an item, place it on Ebay and see if it sells.

I ate a pickle the other day that looked like it had a crucifix shaped indentation - but alas, I already ate it so I can't sell it.

I think I will go look for driftwood this weekend with religious significance.

Of course, I don't want to knock the real products out there that do offer some medical benefits. I believe in the power of copper bracelets to help arthritis and do have a whole shelf in my kitchen dedicated to herbs and vitamins. But I think there are many things sold as "snake oil" that have no real benefits other than to line the pockets of the sellers.

America as a whole, is really searching for miracles!
