Strange Logic

T. Ramaswamy
Two friends John and James meet. After a long conversation John expresses his desire to borrow James's car for a day. The following conversation takes place.
John; I take the liberty of asking you for a favor.

James: What is it? You can freely ask. Between us there is no need for formality.

John: I need your car for a day. I have to visit a relative in the town. I shall put fuel so that you are not burdened with expenses.

James: You see, my car is in the workshop. I have borrowed my friend's (George's) car for a day's use. I have finished my work. I intend returning it tomorrow. It is not fair to give you some one else's car. I am helpless

John: That is exactly the reason I ask you. If it is your car l would not have asked. Since it belongs to some one else any damage, if at all caused, will be repaired by him. So you will not have any burden.I am speaking from experience with many friends like you. So please oblige.

James: I can oblige you only on the condition that you meet the cost of repair of my car which is in the workshop. The damage was caused by a person like you.
