Strange Things to Do in Texas

Texas does not do anything small, including some of their strange attractions. Each one of these strange things to do in Texas will give you a bit of insight into history, but not necessarily Texas history. Next time you have nothing to do, do a little bit of exploring with the strange things.

Full-size Replica Ezekiel Airship at the
Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum
P.O. Box 157,
Pittsburg, Texas 75686
Phone/FAX 903-856-1200

If the legend about this air ship is true, then the Wright Brothers were not the first to fly. It is the only one based on the bible. In the Book of Ezekiel there is a passage about
"living creatures" rising from the earth and a "wheel within a wheel." A local minister The Rev. Burrell Cannon believed this was instructions on how to build a powered air ship and that is what he did. The story goes that iin 1902, a year before the Wright Brothers took off, one of the workers decided to try it out and he reached an altitude of about 15 feet and went about 50 yards. Unfortunately, there were no witnesses. For some reason, it was never flown again and the original was destroyed in a fire. When you see the replica, you will wonder just how it could have flown.
