Let me first start out by saying that until now All Tech Comm did not do much thinking about how relationships between information systems functions and corporate strategy would work. Most of all the thinking about Information systems was just thought of data processing that was done in the back room, now with all the new technology we must began to think different.
When we think about planning for Information systems we must first begin with the identification of its needs. We must be able to be effective, development of many different types of computer based systems (Pant & Hsu, January 1995†,).
The systems development plan will need to be able to identify specific projects that will be used in the future. We must be able to understand each application it also must be able to be adjusted if needed. So it will be important to stay up to date with new strategic capabilities.
According to John Ward the three -era model must be used, first one being data processing with this method the characteristics would pertain to stand alone computers, remote from users and be cost reduction function. (Pant & Hsu, January 1995†,).
Second is Management Information Systems the characteristics of this method would be distributed process, and interconnected, that could be regulated by management thus it would support the business and it would also be user friendly. (Pant & Hsu, January 1995†,).
The third would be Strategic Information Systems with the characteristics being that it would be networked, integrated system and would be able to be used by all users, and that it would relate to business strategy and be able to be business driven. (Pant & Hsu, January 1995†,).
All of the methods that I have listed are important for AllTechComm in order to stay in business and further the business in the future.
Strategic Thinking is critical for future success, keeping computer integrated links to suppliers and other business. When I speak of the future I am talking about applications that will be used in the future examples of this would be data interchange and electric mail. It's important to stay up to date.
What makes this planning process 'strategic'?
The importance of strategic planning is that it will force AllTechComm to look into the future and it will also provide opportunity for the company to be able to influence what can happen in the future.
It will also provide awareness of the company and any related issues'. Also it helps define the overall mission for AllTechComm. It will give AllTechComm a sense of direction and also give AllTechComm the ability to look at staffing and leadership.
By planning it lets everyone into the system which will provide the standards of accountability for its people, programs and all related resources. ("Strategic Planning", 2007-2010,)
By AllTechComm following the steps that I have mentioned it will help the business , the basic plan is having a strategic plan and that implementation is carried out and that credibility and communication are carried out it this should then adherence to the full process of strategic planning.
It will be important for input or feedback when going through these steps, we need to remember that all feedback is key for strategic planning in a cooperative process; everyone involved should have input it will give all persons involved a sense of ownership when planning is beginning this personal feedback will facilitate the implementation process.
At this time I feel that if we set up an integrated system that it would be for the directors to accept the strategic plan and make the mission statement part of the directives. The strategic plan can then become the context from which programs and services flow. ("Strategic Planning", 2007-2010,)
Strategic planning is the key to assuring that our organization is prepared for the challenges of tomorrow, so at this time I would not change anything, I believe that with time it may need a few changes but until we follow and look at the plan we have we should just leave it as it stands until we can do further evaluation.
