Strawberry Soy Milk Smoothie Recipe

I like simple and easy. I also like healthy. Smoothies are a way to combine all these facets together in a great tasting drink that can be served as a snack or supplement to a meal. Here is the recipe for Strawberry Soy Milk Smoothie. I actually drink it daily for the probiotic benefits of the Kefir.

Ingredients:

1 cup soy milk. I use plain, but vanilla works too.

1/2 cup Kefir. This is a cultured milk product containing probiotics which are good for maintaining a healthy .digestive system. It comes in several fruit flavors, but for this smoothie it is best to use plain or strawberry.

Frozen strawberries. As many as you like for taste.

Protein powder - vanilla. I add this if I want an extra energy boost.

Honey - if you use plain soy milk and plain Kefir. This will add a little sweetness. Use to taste.

Mix together and use a hand blender. Whirl until frothy and strawberries are pulverized.

If your ingredients are not cold enough, you can add ice cubes before blending. Often the frozen strawberries are enough to make it cold. You can also add other fruits such as bananas, mangos or compatible fruit juices such as passion fruit or orange juice.

Alternatives:
Use vanilla soy milk, blueberries and blueberry Kefir.
If you like chocolate, use chocolate soy milk with chocolate protein powder. Add a little coffee for a mocha flavor.

Sometimes if I'm headed for the pool in the morning, I mix up a quick energy booster composed of plain soy milk, vanilla protein powder and ice cubes. I whirl with hand blender and drink on the way to the pool. It provides the boost I need until I finish swimming and head home for breakfast.

That's the fun of smoothies. There are so many combinations, you never run out of ideas for new ones.
