The Communist

I get to my apartment

My dingy apartment

Sweaty and tired

Very, very tired

My neighbor comes out

He's been watching the soaps

The miserable soaps

He asks me for my paycheck

And I give it to him

I am a good Communist

The Color of Dog's Blood II

My feelings for Sandra are

Pure, essential love

The kind without harm which

End in a desire to always be good

Her effortless laughter

Creates happiness in me

But my passion for her is

The color of dog's blood

For Sarah, iridescent admiration

I cannot describe

In a middle-class poem

Her intelligence

A crystalline wonder

But my passion for her is

The color of dog's blood

For Gabrielle, domesticity

A knowing kind of love

Tenderness, easy affection

Tranquility and quietness

But my passion for her, too

The color of dog's blood

For Isis, a lost soul

A colorless mist...

Her clueless existence

Draws my generosity

But drains it from me

Her boring inertia fills my mind

And my passion for her (yes)

The color of dog's blood

The Neighbor

She comes out just to tease

This next door friend

Mows the grass

In her underwear

She's not a good neighbor

She comes out to tease

The Investment

I wish I could save happiness

Put it in a bank

Draw it out as needed

Like water from a well

Sell my surplus

To those in need

Though more often

Use it myself
