Stress Free Christmas Gift Shopping

Faye Morgan
It is time to shop! Oh the joys of the holiday season are again upon us. Along with all the wonderful things to do shopping for gifts is a major one for this or any holiday season. Gift shopping can be as stressful as it is wonderful, and I hope to help lessen the burden of stress this year. Here are a few tips that I use when shopping for Christmas gifts that help make the season all that much more enjoyable.

Avoid Black Friday- Do not go shopping outside of your home on Black Friday. Stay at home and enjoy the wonderful Thanksgiving leftovers or just get some rest. Avoiding Black Friday can wipe out a large portion of Christmas gift shopping stress. Not only will you be avoiding the traffic and the relentless crowds of people, you will not be contributing to the large amount of pollution and waste generated on this shopping day. Being a little greener always sets my mind a little more at ease.

Go in a Group- Plan to do your shopping with friends or family. Get a couple of people together and share the largest vehicle between you. I would suggest a mini van or the like. This way people and gifts will have a place. Also, if you have to share space in the car for your gifts, purchasing will be kept to the necessary items. This can ease the stress on your pocket book as frivolous shopping is kept to a minimum.

Shop Online- Avoid the excitement of Christmas shopping by purchasing your gifts online. Many wonderful retailers offer online specials for a wide variety of great gifts and some also offer discounts on shipping. Stay at home and dodge the Christmas shopping hullabaloo altogether. Imagine getting all of your Christmas gift shopping done in your pajamas.

Go Gift shopping With a List- Make a list of everybody you will be shopping for this Christmas. Figure out what you would like to get for these people or where you would like to shop for their gifts. Knowing right where to go and exactly what you are looking for gives you the advantage of making your shopping a little quicker. Save valuable time and energy, maybe even a little cash, by using a list instead of standing around in stores for hours or running all over town and beyond.

Plan Ahead- Figure out the best driving routes as well as the best times to go shopping for Christmas gifts. If some stores you plan to go to are busier in the mourning, go to those stores in the evening and vice versa. If there is a less traveled back way to get to the places you plan to purchase gifts at, take it instead of the main road. Plan other activities around your shopping. If you need to take the kids to their extra curricular activities this evening and want to get a little shopping in, go to those stores that are less busy at that time.
