Stress is a life condition that we all deal with to varying degrees. In this last year, with all of the social and economic issues we are all facing, it's more important than ever to manage stress. It can come in many forms including financial uncertainty, family and relationship issues, as well as media negativity. Options to help tame the beast may include, changing your thoughts, considering multiple perspectives to situations, and changing goals and personal standards. Modern science is beginning to understand the toll stress can take an individual, mentally, emotionally, and physically. All of these factors make it even more important for us to find solutions and enact them.

Stress can often feel like having the weight of the world on your shoulders. If you are currently dealing with a lot of stress, it is important to know that you are not wrong. Things such as blame, guilt, and being hard on your self will only make the stress stronger. People from all walks of life and backgrounds are confronting similar issues, so no matter what your personal situation may be, you aren't alone. The first step that may help is taking small steps such as turning off the TV, avoiding negativity in any form, and removing personal judgment and bias from personal relationships.

Everyone these days is facing some type of financial uncertainty, which is the biggest contributor to personal stress these days. Easing this can be done, but takes devotion and conscious effort. Changing your dominant thoughts from lack and uncertainty to appreciating what you have can go a long way. Scaling back on purchases and making what you have work can take some of the stress away from income uncertainty. Driving less, eating at home, and activities such as visiting public parks with friends can curb the need to create more income at uncertain times.

The bottom line of the situations is that everyone is facing a great deal of stress, which can sometimes lead people to act unlike their true selves. Things can easily be misinterpreted and end up in large-scale dramatic arguments. Taking time to understand multiple perspectives can reduce stress in relationships. Openly talking about your problems and encouraging others to do the same will not only develop relationships, but also transform them from a headache to an asset. In these times, everyone can benefit from a friend!

Everyone sets goals for themselves, however the nature of them can cause personal discord and unnecessarily put stress on them. Sometimes, in uncertain times, re-evaluating you goals can take some of the pressure off. Breaking big goals into smaller, more easily achievable actions can go a long way. Rome wasn't built in a day regardless of how much personal drive anyone had. Some concept applies here. If you are overwhelmed with other issues right now, it might be best to set large scale goals off to the side until the time is right to work on them.

Stress is not just an abstract thing that has no impact. Modern science is learning how stress causes problems with the body, mind, and emotional state of an individual. Not dealing with stress can lead to symptoms such as, headaches, depression, thoughts of suicide, and other illnesses. If you are experiencing symptoms relating to stress it is imperative to take action and get help. Stress is something that can cause deep, long lasting problems and should be treated as such.

As history has proven, tough times come and go. In the worst case, even if you are in danger of loosing all of your material possessions, knowing that stuff is replaceable but you aren't will go a long way to reducing the load. Most cases wouldn't come to that, however thoughts of that empowering nature will replace negative, damaging ones. As with many things, dealing with stress is a personal choice and one I hope many make.
