I know I am one of those Americans. It is a nature of happenstance to worry about this and that. This and that can take one off focus. Losing focus can stress a person out, literally. Stress by no means, is a silent killer. It all starts with memory loss, forgetting the little things that really matter. Diet and exercise is no longer an important factor. You become antsy around loved ones, especially children since they really do say and ask the darndest things. It is hard to recognize stress particularly when one feels that they have had life all under control and do not even recognize it.
Many people feel like they should have more in life such as more money, a better job, more materialistic things that are superficial and most times, meaningless. What people do not realize are the small successes and accomplishments mean the most versus the list above. These things make a person happy, thus lessening the growing symptoms for migraines, heart disease, poor diet and lack of performance on the job. All of the mentioned are heavy aspects of what makes stress less manageable.
Why worry over something you do not have? People want a million dollars in the bank, they want the person in front of them in five miles per hour rush hour traffic to move faster or blow their horn just like you do or they want to become an overnight celebrity, giving them that million dollars in the bank. I believe that every average American, no matter what race or class, has some form of stress or problem that has occurred in their lives. It is worthy enough to think that there is a rational solution to every problem if one takes the time to think things through slowly. First, recognize that you have some problems that keep you from gaining eight hours of sleep every night. If you have to write down your problems in a notebook, then do it. Write down all of your problems and determine if they are worthy of being solved or is it just plain old whining and complaining. Give yourself a manageable timeline to tackle your problems one at a time. It does not have to be forty different problems solved within the next forty-eight hours, but adequate time and research will alleviate the stress. Seek resources such as support groups, hotlines, and one-on-one counseling for your problems and issues. Whether it is a health issue or job-related conflict, there are solutions to most problems. Continue to make time to do the things that you enjoy. This will take your mind off of the problems. Do not ignore the problems such as piling bills or that annoying micro-managing supervisor, but find ways to adjust those issues. And most of all, do not worry about things you cannot change. Learning to work through issues is an overall learning process, but also a healing process that will lessen stress and liven up your spirit.
