There are a many things to do as an expectant parent. And, each one comes with its own, sometimes silent, price tag. You'll need to carefully consider each of these items, prioritize them, and start collecting early.

Let's talk first about your house. The baby's room will have to be stocked with numerous supplies and furniture, diapers, toys, clothes, etc. We'll talk about all of that later. First off, the nursery may need to be remodeled. Is the baby's new world efficient and easy to use? You may want to put up shelves, install a closet, or even put the door in a more convenient area. Then, after all of that you'll be ready to paint and decorate. And, finally, you must install protective devices, such as outlet covers.

Moving through the rest of the house we find stairs that must be closed off from the baby. Then we find more exposed electrical outlets which also must be covered. There are countless cupboards to be secured. You will need to lock away numerous chemicals and even some smaller, everyday items. Cords must be secured, or eliminated completely. Even the toilets have to be made safe for the newest resident.

After all of the remodeling, now you can inventory what you have, what you get at the baby shower, and what is left to buy. Aside from the necessities listed above, the new parents will also need powder, baby wash, cleaning cloths, baby wipes, and first aid supplies and basic medicines.

Quite a few of these items can, and should whenever possible, be collected, stored and saved for later use. The non-perishable items such as diapers and cleaning supplies keep well. These items are also the ones easiest to forget when in a rush trip to the store after your baby arrives, but, they are also some of the most necessary.

You will also want to do a little research on the toys and furniture that you want to have around the new child. There are size and coating, as well as other, considerations when thinking of your little one's safety. Fortunately, there are places online, and in traditional publications, which monitor items for baby. Do not be afraid to use these references for their written content as well as their online, and telephone, live help lines.

Lastly, we must consider insurance. Life and health insurance policies on the new baby are a must. And, you must also make adjustments to your own insurance policies, and other personal documents, like your will. There are many facets of financial life which will need to be changed before your child arrives.

All of this costs money. This article only lists a few of the items needed before the special day. You will want to research, and talk to everyone who will talk with you. Remember though, list, prioritize, and then buy. Once you have your inventory, list, and a plan, you can relax and enjoy your new baby, knowing that you are prepared for anything.
