Stressing About Stress - a Poetic Measure on Living with Pressure

Linda Ann Nickerson
The doctor asked, "Have you been stressed?"
I answered quickly, "No, I'm blessed."
A growing family feud fun-fest
And self employment, full conquest.

No, I'm not stressed; my life is calm,
My house appears post-atom-bomb.
The kids, they holler, "Mom-mom-mom!"
And someone's on the intercom.

I'm so relaxed that I could spit,
If I could find the time to sit.
My daytimer's a yawning pit.
Perhaps I'll just go throw a fit.

No, I'm not stressed; I'm coasting free,
Just like a hummingbird, you see.
My wings are flapping frantically,
Who wouldn't want to feel such glee?

Tomorrow I will find the time
To contemplate the things sublime
And ponder how I've lost my prime
To wrestle for the upward climb.

No, I'm not stressed; it's all been good;
I've tried to do the things I should,
Like making time for motherhood
And eking out a livelihood.

How could I possible be stressed?
My doctor should just be impressed
By all the time that I invest
In keeping family clean and dressed.

No, I'm not stressed; I do it all.
I meet my deadlines, have a ball,
And tuck them in before nightfall.
What's with my doctor's wake-up call?

OH my, I can so remember raising a family, working and try to keep things going. It is full time stress. What a great poem of denial, while getting your point across. You certainly are a poet. Loved it.

Hmmnnnn...nice rythm and rhyme...funny too. Have ever heard about McGill Rhyming Dictionary? It's good (if you ever love using softwares for writing). It is free anyway. If you can't find it, you can send me a message I'll send one to you through attachment or lead you to the website where you can get it. It's a good software, really.
