Stretch Your Gaming Dollar- Sell Your Used Video Games!

We've all done it. As soon as you put the finishing touches on that last boss, the game is ejected from the console, put back in its case, and tossed in a corner, only to gather dust as the newest and latest game makes it way onto your TV. With the price of a new game reaching nearly $60, you deserve more for your money. Using the techniques outlined in this article, you can make a little back on that used game, freeing up more funds for your next video game adventure.

Sell Back Your Games #1- GameStop/EB Games/Your Local Store

Most video game stores, such as GameStop, EB Games, and others, buy and sell used games. Simply bring in your played titles, and the store associate will scan the bar code and see how much the game is worth. Popular new games will always get the best offers-just don't expect much for that three-year-old sports game.

The price you get on your game is dependant on supply-and-demand at that time, but you can get a pretty good idea of what you'll get for your game by looking at that store's used price. I've found that these stores often pay you one-third to one-tenth of what they actually sell the game for. Also note that to get the full value for your trade, you'll have to accept store credit instead of cash for your used video games. If you plan to purchase another game at the time, this should be fine, but the payment method is a good thing to keep in mind if you want to use the cash for something else.

Sell Back Your Games #2- Online Buyback Centers

Websites such as sellvideogames.com and secondspin.com, among many others, offer the opportunity to easily sell your games to them for cash. Prices on these websites are often comparable to what you'll get in trade at the video game stores, but you'll get your payment in cash through a PayPal account or a check instead of store credit. You'll have to incur the expense of shipping your games to the websites, however, which may limit the potential profit depending on how many items you're selling.

Sell Back Your Games #3- eBay

If you have an eBay selling account, you can sell your games to people all over the world for cash. I've found that eBay is the best way to rid yourself of still-popular games. You'll often receive a price similar to what the big retailers sell the game for used: much more than a buyback website or the store itself would offer you. Check the completed listings to figure out what to charge for your game, and to see if the game is indeed selling at all.

Video games are one of the easiest things to list on eBay. By typing in the ISBN number on top of the bar code, eBay prefills information about your title on a listing page. Then, simply add shipping and payment info and list your item. You can ship games that you sell on eBay in #0-size bubble mailers, available anywhere that sells office supplies. First class mail for a game costs just a few bucks. For popular games, eBay is the way to go.

Go Sell Those Games!

Don't let your used games collect dust in a corner. Sell them back to the video game store, to a buyback website, or to someone across the continent on eBay, and gather some extra funds for your next game. Good luck, and happy playing!
