Today manufacturing jobs are being outsourced to foreign countries, such as Mexico and China, at an alarming rate. Our cries have feel on deaf ears to our politicians and employers. Our states are cutting budgets and going broke due to the loss in revenue that these companies contribute.
The strength of many of our labor unions has weakened their power and many have become nonexistent. The American workers have lost their voice to big corporations who seem to have a take it or leave it attitude.
I remember a time in the late '70s when we had an economic slump due to foreign imports and the big push was "buy American". The American people rallied and turned back to American made products and the economy rebounded and so did manufacturing.
I worked personally for an auto parts supplier and watch with disbelief as our jobs were being shipped out of the country. We did not have a voice in this nonunion environment. Our local economy plummeted and we were left with no place to turn.
Instead of bad mouthing the decision of the United Auto Workers to strike against General Motors, maybe, we should start looking to our future and our children's future by standing behind the U.A.W. The U.A.W. is not only fighting for the jobs of the General Motors workers, but for all the American workers who have lost their voice. We workers are all affected by the out come.
It is time to bring the jobs back to America and be proud once again to be an American worker.

Post a CommentFree Trade Agreements are Great! They've just about bankrupted the three American producers. That's what is really wrong with Michigan!
Good article!! Most people dont relieze the UAW IS fighting for job security!! Keeping these jobs in the U.S. is good for all of us whether you live in Michigan or Utah!
The UAW strike may be ok for some but if you live in Michigan then it really seems like a stupid thing for the workers to do right now. With the worsening economy, inability for an incompetent governor and legislature to balance a budget, and the threat of a state "shut-down" (not to mention that they are trying to raise the state income and sales taxes; why would anyone who lives here want to risk being out of work is beyond me. I have lived here all my life (50 yrs) and have never seen things this bad. Somethings gotta give.
