Strikeforce Evolution: Prediction and Preview

John Locke
Strikeforce Evolution boasts an exciting card after the phenomenal Brett Rogers vs. Fedor Emelianenko card in November. The promotion has benefited from signing new fighters to its roster but also from its new media deals that they have signed including the Superchannel deal in Canada. To add to that, we get to see the show on Dec 19 online and you pay $24.99 vs. $44.99 which is the standard UFC price at Yahoo Sports or UFC.com.

Firstly, let's take a look at the card:

MAIN CARD

Middleweight bout: Cung Le vs. Scott Smith - Prediction: Cung Lee by KO

Lightweight Championship bout: Josh Thomson vs. Gilbert Melendez - Prediction: Josh Thomson by Decision

Middleweight bout: Ronaldo Souza vs. Matt Lindland - Prediction: Ronaldo Souza by Submission

Heavyweight bout: Muhammed Lawal vs. Mike Whitehead - Prediction Lawal by KO

PRELIMINARY CARD

Light Heavyweight bout: Scott Lighty vs. Antwain Britt

Lightweight bout: Daisuke Nakamura vs. Justin Wilcox

Featherweight bout: Luis Mendoza vs. Juan Nunez

Lightweight bout: Alex Trevino vs. Bobby Stack

Lightweight bout: Alexander Crispim vs. AJ Fonseca

There are several attractions in this bout. Firstly of course you have the ex-Strikeforce champion Cung Le, who after a break in his career is returning to show why he should still be recognized as a force in MMA. His kicking power is well-known and helped put away Frank Shamrock. My view is that Cung Le is overrated nevertheless as we still have not seen him fight top talent in any division yet.

The other major excitement is Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, debuting at Strikeforce in America after a successful career in Dream. His only recent loss has been to Gegard Mousasi who has moved up to LHW and it looks like there will be little to stop the Brazilian jiu jitsu legend from stepping up for the middleweight belt apart from perhaps Dan Henderson who likely has the wrestling qualities and striking power to keep the alligator at bay.

Muhammed King Mo Lawal is another fighter that many would like to see prove himself in the ring as so far he seems to be more active outside of the ring, commenting on almost every big fight at Strikeforce and challenging almost anyone. For now, he still has a long road ahead of him to prove he has the heart, talent and skill to be in the ring with the best.
