If you have school age kids you've probably already heard of String Dolls. They have become all the rage with kids of all ages and are easy to get. These String dolls can be found in most bubble gum machines for a mere fifty cents.
Who Makes Them?
There are a couple of different manufacturers of String Dolls. According to their website Kamibashi is the original maker of the the String Dolls. But Dayu Voodoo Dolls also has quite a few. I have one of dolls they manufacture that my daughter gave to me.
Some of these String Dolls look like they just walked off the set of a horror movie and yet they are sought after by kids and parents alike. Some String Dolls come with bells, mobile phone lanyard, a meaning card or a key chain depending on which String Doll you are getting and from which manufacturer you are getting them from.
Most of these dolls are made to look like characters from horror movies that many of us know well. There are Mummy's, Demons, Dracula, Frankenstein, Freddy Krueger, Zombie, Witch, Ninjas and so many more. My favorite is The Headless Horseman, this String Doll holds his own orange head in one hand while standing with his cape open.
How Are They Made?
The entire string doll is made up of, you guessed it...string. From it's body all the way to the hair that some of them have. Each string doll is made from a single length of continuous cotton string, which is carefully wound to create the classic string doll body shape. Each one is them adorned with whatever accessories are used for that particular character.
Where can I Find Them?
All of these dolls are adorable in a frightening way and anyone who loves horror or dolls and collectibles will love these small String Dolls. Most of the Dolls that you can easily find will be the ones coming from the bubble gum machine for fifty cents. They come in a small plastic container and are just a few inches in height.
Some of the String Dolls are thought to have magical Voodoo powers and may give the owners luck, love, or riches. But because of beliefs that people who practice Voodoo are chicken killing, pin-sticking practioners of evil-magic that turn people into the undead, most of the String Dolls won't be labeled as Voodoo dolls.
But whatever reason you buy these dolls, you can bet they will make an excellent addition to the family.
