Stuck on the Throne - Pam Babcock

Sheriff Whipple
Date of Interview: March 13, 2008
Feb. 27, 2008 Kory McFarren called police saying there was something wrong with his girlfriend. Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple found Pam Babcock stuck in the bathroom. Literally. She had been on the toilet for approximately two years and her skin had grown around the toilet seat. Whipple said she didn't want to leave. After finally convincing Pam Babcock she needed medical attention the toilet seat was removed from the toilet and it went with her to the hospital to be removed from her.

There wasn't signs of physical abuse- she wasn't tied or glued to the toilet her body fat had just grown around it. McFarren said she just didn't want to come out of the bathroom. When he asked if she would come out of the bathroom she would say maybe tomorrow. He went on to say it just kind of happened, staying in the bathroom. She kept staying in there longer and longer and one day she didn't want to come out. He would bring her food and water and clothes. He admits he should have called for help sooner but after awhile he just got use to it.

She was reported in fair condition by the hospital. Whipple said she refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators. A neighbor reported he really hadn't seen her for about six years. He had known her since childhood and said her mother died at a young age leaving Pam Babcock to a tough childhood.

I was wondering how one could sit anywhere for that long. I also couldn't figure out what crime was being committed when by Sheriff Whipple's own words she wouldn't cooperate and didn't want to leave the bathroom. I could see calling for a psychiatrist and having her committed if it could be proven she was a threat to herself or someone else.

Although this was quite amusing it is also quite serious for both Kory McFarren and for Pam Babcock, according to Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple. As of March 13, 2008 Pam Babcock is still in the hospital not only for her physical condition but they are also working with her psychiatric condition. In the sheriff's opinion, when Mr. McFarren realized Pam Babcock needed help it was too late, he should have called for help the first day she wouldn't come out of the bathroom. When asked if charges were going to be pressed against Kory McFarren, he said he didn't know but that the case has been given to the county attorney and it will be up to him. Sheriff Whipple did add that it was a good possibility. I asked what the charge would be for this? He said if McFarren was charged with anything it would be mistreatment of an adult dependant. I asked if she was relying on him before this and all he could tell me was she was definitely a dependant in this situation. She depended on McFarren for food and water, life in general. Sheriff Whipple didn't know when the hospital would be releasing Pam Babcock.

I interviewed Sheriff Whipple on March 13, 2008 and immediately turned it in to AC. Unfortunately it sat until now to be published.
