Student Council Activities for Valentine's Day

Nicole A.
Valentine's Day can be dull when students are bored from the same old holiday games at school. Here are some student council activities for Valentine's Day that can help to entertain classmates.

Battle of the Sexes Valentine's Day Challenge
Select a group of female students and male students to participate in a challenge that takes place in front of the remaining student body and faculty. The location for a Battle of the Sexes Valentine's Day challenge can be a school auditorium, gym or lunch room. Girls compete against boys for prizes by answering challenge questions about the opposite sex. Questions are to be determined by members of the Student Council and can include one or more subject area. Group multiple subject areas into categories when asking variable questions.

A music category question for boys could be based on a historical fact including "How many Grammys did Lauryn Hill win in 1999?" or popular fact such as "Name Five Songs by Miley Cyrus". Make a small budget using some funds from previous student council fundraisers to purchase a group of Valentine's Day gifts to give away as prizes. Select one male gift for every female present that is purchase to maintain fairness during this holiday school activity. These Valentine's Day gifts can include teddy bears, movie tickets, perfume, DVDs, cologne for boys, CDs, books or other items that students would normally give to friends during this holiday. Holiday themes school supplies such as red or pink notebooks, folders, ink pens and backpacks can also be given in lieu of more expensive items.

Alternative Play for a Battle of the Sexes Valentine's Day Challenge: Depending on its budget, the Student Council can also spend one entire school day or week hosting the same challenge in a different classroom each day. This will allow more opportunities for the entire student body to receive a Valentine's Day gift instead of a select few.

Valentine's Day Art Show & Fundraiser
Assign art and craft jobs to students instead of purchasing Valentine's Day gifts from a retail store. Spend a week creating greeting cards, postcards, jewelry, candles, teddy bear clothes and other works of art that can be sold to faculty, students and parents. Schedule a day where friends and family can visit your school yard, library or gym to purchase holiday items as a student council fundraiser. The event should be done prior to this holiday and makes one of the most fun and lucrative student council activities for Valentine's Day. Setup display stations to resemble an art gallery exhibit or trade show appearance depending on the expected attendance of this student council activity.

Valentine's Day Obstacle Course
Invite student contestants to participate in a holiday obstacle course for prizes. Setup Valentine's Day tasks in different areas of the school gym. The tasks can include a variety of holiday activities such as writing a greeting card and decorating cookies or cupcakes. This is one of many student council activities for Valentine's Day that can also include outrageous tasks. Dump holiday candy in a bowl and instruct contestants to pick out red jelly hearts with a baby spoon without spilling anything from their bowls.

Allow students to sign up until the student council has reached a specific number of contestants. The contestants collect bids or pledges from classmates for their participation in this obstacle course. The winning contestant and his or her group of supporters get a pizza party, free lunch or an appropriate prize sponsored by student council.
