Student Council Campaign Tips

The competition for a student government position at school can be tough. Here are a few student council campaign tips to help you pave the way for success.

Become an Advocate for Conflict Resolution at School
The faculty at some schools may have limited control over preventing altercations between students. This is one major problem at schools across the nation, which can be addressed as part of your student council campaign. You can focus on specific areas such as bullying, negative social cliques and vandalism or tackle conflict as a whole. Step in to provide positive changes if you notice an argument, teasing or physical fight occurring at school before, during and after your student council campaign. Offer to discuss the problem with those involved and your school counselor or other members of student council.

Cover all or most Interests of the Student Body
Prove that you can deliver on matters of education and activities among the student body. This will help you appeal to school faculty and various social crowds among classmates and students at different grade levels. Running a campaign that is focused on planning more school trips and parties will make your approach one-sided. The same principle applies if you seek votes by promoting higher test scores and quality homework assignments. Education should be a main objective but some students also want to have fun at school.

Finding a way to combine these two goals of learning and entertainment can help to satisfy more people at your school. Catering to a variety of interests among classmates and faculty is among many useful student council campaign tips that can help you win. The flexibility of your goals for a school year also demonstrates that you are striving to have everyone's best interests in mind. A student council member who only wants to party can isolate students more interested in SAT scores and college acceptance letters. Do not neglect students who want a less boring school year either, when starting a campaign.

Consider the Requirements before running for Student Council
Take all responsibilities of your preferred student council position into consideration before running a campaign. Will you be available for student council meetings? Do you have a bias on certain issues relevant to the student body? Are your grades going to stay the same or get worse after joining student council? These are some of many important questions to ask yourself before running a student council campaign. It is better to postpone campaign plans for another year than stepping down from your position in the middle of a school year. Making careful assessments about your reliability as a President, Vice President, Secretary, Sergeant at Arms or Treasurer is one of the most important student council campaign tips to practice.
