Student Council Fundraising Activities

Student Council Magazine Challenge
Some student government organizations host magazine drives but do not use their own publications. Put a new spin on the typical magazine fundraiser by publishing a custom booklet created by students. This can be turned into a challenge where all student council members have to create their own magazine and sell them to raise funds. One student who sells the most copies of his or her magazine gets a prize or portion of funds raised. The entire student council can also create one main magazine to sell throughout their school and community.

Consult the local student newspaper club if there is one at your school for tips on magazine content. All student council members can write their own articles or collect submissions from fellow classmates to publish in the magazine. Some of the most widely used content for magazines include poetry, interviews, reviews, personal essays and research material. While funding can come from direct magazine sales, advertising is an option that will boost this student council fundraising activity. Visit local stores in your community and ask the owners to advertise in the student council magazine. The article How to Get Magazine Advertisers lists additional options that student council fundraising activities may benefit from.

Student Council Karaoke Auction
Put a spin on the concept of auctions and karaoke by blending the two to create a humorous student council fundraiser. Invite students, parents and faculty members to attend a student council karaoke auction free of charge. Make it clear that these guests still have to bring money to participate in your auction. Purchase karaoke CDs or collect instrumentals of classic and new songs to perform during this student council fundraising activity. Choose a student or faculty member to host this fundraiser. The host's job includes instructing guests to bid on songs that student council members have to perform.

Student Council Animal Show
Contact animal trainers, shelters or the local zoo to borrow one dozen animals for student council fundraising activities. Setup a classroom or gymnasium to display animals for students and faculty members at your school. Charge admission to visit your "animal show" and select one host for each animal to explain fun animal facts to visitors. Bring a Polaroid or other still camera to take photos of visitors posting with animals at this student council fundraiser. Photos can also be used as another way to raise funds by charging visitors who want a copy of their photo.

I guess fundraising in this country is more than necessary. Our nation seems to place more emphasis on controlling money than educating students.
