Student Council Ideas for School

Nicole A.
Here are three fun ways to use proceeds from school fundraising activities held by student council members.

Student Council Scholarship Fund
Use the fundraising activities at school to help students achieve their future goals after graduation. A portion of the money raised during student council activities can be combined to create a scholarship fund. This is one of many student council ideas that benefit high school students applying to college. Younger students can also use a student council sponsored scholarship to attend private high schools that charge tuition. Seek help from the principal before starting a student-run scholarship fund.

There may be rules and regulations that school government officers must abide by in order to implement these student council ideas. Ask a reliable teacher to oversee the planning and execution of your school scholarship fund. All student council members involved should decide how these funds will be distributed. Figure out if students will be randomly selected from one set of criteria such as GPA and school participation or whether they have to apply for your scholarship. One or several scholarships can be given out using these student council ideas for school depending on how much funding is available.

Student Council Senior Class Trip Fund
While numerous activities can be planned at your school, set aside from fundraising money to use for the senior class trip. High school seniors and even middle school seniors have lots of expenses to cover already including yearbook fees, prom and tuition for their future education. As a student council member or president, you can help reduce some of the school activity expenses by starting a senior class trip fund. Place some money into this fund after most or all student council fundraising activities. Give this money to the teacher or student representative who has been selected as senior class sponsor.

This is one of the most useful student council ideas for school that can be utilized each year. The senior class trip fund does not have to be used solely for graduating students. You can use the money to plan regular school trips for all students. Host a contest to name this class trip fund and charge students, teachers and parents a title submission fee. The contest can be used as one of your student council fundraising activities that work if several school funds are being created.

Student Council Prom Fund
Junior and senior proms can cost hundreds of dollars for each student at your school. The prom is one of many key events that student council can help out with during the planning stages. Build a school fund to be used for prom related expenses such as banquet hall rentals, photographer fees, DJ fees, food, decorations or transportation. Students may appreciate the fact that their fellow classmates are using student council ideas that reduce prom ticket costs and other expenses.
