Student Council Valentine's Day Ideas

Here are fun student council Valentine's Day ideas for school. They are fairly easy to setup and provide an entertaining way for students to celebrate this holiday.

Valentine's Day Card Giveaway
While the Valentine's Day holiday can be a fun experience for many students, there will likely be a few classmates who are neglected. The reason could be because they are not in a couple, have no friends or have been isolated from fellow students during the school year. A greeting card giveaway is one of many student council Valentine's Day ideas that make sure students do not feel left out of any festivities. Give one card that includes famous love quotes or Valentine's Day phrases to all students at your school. Place Valentine's Day cards in pink envelopes for girls and use red envelopes for boys. By giving a small gift of greeting cards, the student council helps to make everyone feel special.

Dear Abby & Abe Advice Weekly Column for School
Decorate a shoe box or mailbox with newspaper, Valentine's Day stickers and photographs. Cut large sheets of wide ruled or college rules notebook paper into heart shapes. Put these notebook shapes next to your mailbox on a table in front of your student council office or high traffic location. Invite students to ask friendship, dating, love or relationship advice by writing questions on notebook hearts and putting them into a box. Allow the option for entries to be submitted anonymously.

Choose one female student to be the Valentine's Day "Abby" and a male student to answer questions as "Abe". Another option for this advice column is to divide student council members by gender and come up with the best advice for each question from the two groups. Distribute a two-sided column to students every week throughout the month of February. Student council members should vote on a name for this column prior to publishing the first issue. Give students small Valentine's Day gifts or candy with each weekly advice column.

This can be one of the most fun and useful student council Valentine's Day ideas if planned properly in advance. Planning should begin in January so everything can be setup and ready to go on February 1st. The designated "Abby" and "Abe" should also seek assistance from the school counselor for difficult questions that they cannot answer.

Valentine's Day Newsletter
Publish a holiday newsletter for the entire month that features word games, surveys, quizzes and feature stories for students at your school. Each member of the student council should have his or her own article in the newsletter. These feature stories could be related to their position or based on current events relevant to the holiday. A newsletter is one of the most collaborative student council Valentine's Day ideas. Invite classmates to contribute their own photos, artwork or love poems to this publication.

Decide early on whether your newsletter will be distributed free of charge or with a small price. If student council members choose to have a price, keep the cost as low as possible between 25 cents and $1. Give free copies to everyone who contributed content that is published on this newsletter. Student council members will also have to determine how large this Valentine's Day newsletter will be. You can publish a 1-4 page newsletter or an entire magazine for your school.

There may be an opportunity to use the larger option as one of your student council fundraising activities by selling advertising space to students and local businesses. Collecting advertising fees makes it easier to give the newsletter or magazine out for free as one of the student council Valentine's Day ideas.
