Georgia Southern is a four year college and a part of the University System of Georgia. They boast a number of both graduate and undergraduate programs to suit the needs of nearly anyone. Most classes are small, enabling students and professors to get acquainted with one another, and allowing for a more suitable and enjoyable learning environment. The professors themselves are very enthusiastic about their subject-matter and expect nothing less than one hundred percent from all of their students.
As far as Georgian cities go, you could not hope for a friendlier, safer, environment to attend college. Nestled in the small city of Statesboro, the campus itself is absolutely beautiful. With brick sidewalks, flowers, ponds, trees, and fountains scattered all over campus, even your walk to class will be enjoyable. All buildings are within walking distance of one another, but, should you prefer it, the University recently invested in a transit system. The transit stops at nearly every apartment complex and neighborhood in Statesboro and is free to both students and locals. For your convenience, it operates from seven a.m. to seven p.m. If you would prefer to drive, you are of course able to purchase a parking permit at any time during the semester.
Extracurricular activities are abundant, as well. If you are an athlete, Georgia Southern's sports programs cover all bases. No matter what you play, you will not be left out. The Recreation Activity Center (RAC) has recently been expanded and is now one of the largest recreational centers offered at any university in Georgia. It is open all year and is free of charge for students.
The Arts are also honored to the fullest at Georgia Southern. Play an instrument? Sing? Paint? Write? Draw? Act? Dance? GSU offers something for everyone. And if you are interested in joining a sorority or fraternity, you have a number of options. The Greek organizations work with various charitable organizations, including March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, and Habitat for Humanity.
If you are thinking of joining the military, Georgia Southern has an Army ROTC program which offers not only a future career, but numerous financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
While Statesboro caters to college students and has tons of apartment complexes available year-round, Georgia Southern does, of course, have dormitories with reasonable fees.Georgia Southern is also technologically up to date. They have numerous computer labs throughout the campus. Georgia Southern even has a planetarium! Henderson Library is perhaps the most impressive building. Recently renovated, it offers over 500,000 volumes, 700,000 government documents, and 900,000 audio and video resources. It is also one of few libraries that are open twenty-four hours a day.
All in all, Georgia Southern is an excellent University. However, if you still are not convinced, you should check out their website: http://www.georgiasouthern.edu
