What to Expect While Studying Abroad in Rome

For any line of study, there is something of interest to be found in Rome. Once hailed as the "light of the civilized world," Rome has many features and opportunities for the observant traveler. While you are studying at your institution of choice (we will list a few) be sure to check out some of the rich history and engineering in the area.

The availability of various universities as well as local tourism designed for those who are living on a college budget make this a perfect destination for any study abroad program. Those of a mathematical or architectural background will enjoy any of the tours available that study Roman architecture and engineering. For those that are into the nightlife, one of the favorites is the Roman Candle Night Tours that are led by English speaking natives of America, Canada, or British guides.

Most who visit Rome on a study abroad semester try to peruse each of the Seven Hills of Rome. Each of the hills has its own unique atmosphere, and there are even pubs located throughout the city that will be different from what most perceive Rome to be like. The names of the hills (clockwise) are the Quirinal, the Viminal, the Esquiline, the Caelium, the Aventine, the Palatine, and the Capitoline. For those who do not wish to walk, several scooter rental companies are available throughout the city.

Now, since we all know that the reason any student would choose to study abroad in Rome is specifically for the education. There are many options to choose from when deciding on a university in Rome, and now we will discuss a few of the favorites.

The American University of Rome: The AUR was founded in 1969 and is an accredited university that offers six different degrees. An associate of arts is available for Liberal Arts studies and International Business. A Bachelors of Arts is available for Art History, Communication, Interdisciplinary Studies, International relations, and Italian Studies. Lastly, a Bachelors of Science is available for Business Administration.

John Cabot University: This University was established in 1972 and offers over 200 courses. Some classes are held on site at famous buildings and locations throughout Rome. The student body is highly diversified giving students a chance to experience cultures from every area of the globe.

St. John's University: The offer a full semester or one year in Rome. While there, you will have in depth studies in Italian language, culture, and history.
