Study Proves Weight Matters

There is a Better Way for Adults to Keep the Weight Off

The truth about weight gain is, that it is about countries where there is food. The amount of consumable goods in many countries is so high that food is mixed into the emotional lifestyle, and the suggestion is that many times we don't really want a brownie, we want a hug. Someone fits that bill, but not me, brownies can't replace hugs.

Karen Collins, R.D., writing for MSNBC reports on the fact that American's are gaining an "average of one to two pounds per year of adult life." The article suggests that this leads to many health issues, many serious, her writing contains some information that people can make use of, check it out at: [click]

If you are an adult mid thirty, you may be seeing some of this reality coming true in your life, which raises the question, is this the way it has to be? The obvious response is no, but the reality is yes, yet, there is a hopeful response that involves some simple changes. Most everyone is familiar with the K.I.S.S. theory (keep it simple)- and in this case, that is powerfully true.

First - examine the life you lead, how your life is organized for leisure time. Many people don't have leisure time, they have collapse time, and there is a difference. Leisure is time that you spend for you, devoted to a peace within you. Christian's are sometimes heard calling this quiet time. Some religions practice this as meditation time. Leisure can also be simply a time where your focus is you, and relaxing you. The difference is clearly the relax factor combined with the "you" factor. Don't mistake collapse time, T.V. couch time with kids screamin' in the living room, with leisure time.

Second- take a hard look at your hand to mouth "easing the stress" eating. Many people, myself included, grab a "whatever is near" to put it into their mouth, and it does ease the stress. My testimony is very simply, chips ease the edge off- it's why they call out to me from the cupboard. This eating is browsing type eating, grab a cookie, grab some chips, five, six times an evening as you pass the cupboard; and they add up. Once you are aware of it, you can do something about it. How to become aware of it, without dodging the bullet by denial? Silly as it sounds; draw up a chart, three columns - Day of the week, Mon - Sun, Opened, Munched - now...if you munch, put a check. If you open, but don't munch, put a check. This will clearly show you how often you open the cupboard and then munch, or just open the cupboard looking but not munching.

Third- learn calories and count them. With the exception of "Weight Watchers" which uses points as a substitute to calorie counting, nearly all weight loss advisors want people to understand that you need "X" amount of calories to be healthy, beyond that is fat. Curb or cut back the calorie, lose the weight, add to that exercise and you have a healthy formula to become happier about your life.

The unmistakable conclusion is that weight may come, but it also can go, it is, how we do, what we do, that will make the difference. We have all heard it so many times that we are becoming immunized to the reality of being in charge of our behavior, yet, clearly we can control our behavior, and if we will, we will control our weight. Have to go run...hope we can chat again about this... -DrD
