Studying the Bible: In the Beginning with Genesis, a Complete Work

All Things Were Created Equal, Having the Same Quantity and Value as Another

Barbara K

As the Bible begins it tells of all the creations as God created them. In Genesis 1:1-26 on the first day God created the heavens, earth, light and darkness. On the days to follow the waters were formed and divided. The firmament (sky) was called heaven. Without each thing not any would have been complete. Now he made the dry land and called it earth. Next, the waters came together and were called the sea.

God knew what all was needed to complete his plan. On the dry land there grew grass, fruit trees, and herbs. If only one had been made what use would it have been? We need the earth to grow things and live on. So if there were only water everything would be flooded.

Now the greater light for the day and the lesser light for the night, then the stars and moon were cause to exist. This was for signs, seasons, for days, and years. If there was only light we would not be able to see the change of time.

The time came for the creatures of the waters to be formed, the whales, fish, and the winged fowls of the air. The creatures were created after his kind, the cattle, creeping things and all the breast of the earth. He made all the creatures in pairs, to be fruitful, and multiply. One without the other would have had no purpose.

It was time to make man. So God made man from the dust of the earth and gave him breath. He said that man needed a partner so he took a rib out of man and formed the female. In Genesis 1:27 it says; "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Now in Genesis 5:2: it says " Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam." This shows that God's plan is for them to be equal. He even gave them the same first name! Reading so far all things were made equal in its kind and likeness.

But sometime it seems that they were separated or divided. But wait, let's read what Adam did. Looking back at Genesis: 2:23, this is where we find how they were separated," And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh:" (this sounds a little like its going to be ownership.) "She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man." (She wasn't taken out of man, the rib was.) It sounds like a separation is taking place. But this is not Gods plan. Many men today see man or themselves as being more superior to the woman. Don't forget God called their name Adam. How much clearer can it get? They were created equal; they were or are given the same rights. "Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all living things." Adam changed her name from Adam to Eve.

The old man Adam did some changing not God. As you read these scriptures it is made plain by the word "their". God's intentions are for the man and woman to be the same, being the same value as the other. A man without the woman would only be a man. As with each of his creations the one without the other is incomplete.

See how missing or not seeing one word can make a huge change in what a subject is saying.

Check Genesis 5:2 for the scripture. So many people even after reading it dozens of times missed the meaning of one.word "their" Genesis 5:2. Equal meaning: the same privileges, status, or rights:the same quantity, measure, or value as another. Divided:

Thanks for taking time to write on a book that is so foundational.
