Stuff That's Left Behind - Another Breakup Website from the Creators of Ex Boyfriend Jewelry

Ronda Roberts
From the creators of exboyfriendjewelry.com comes Stuffthatsleftbehind.com. This website grew out of the idea that when a relationship ends, more often than not, you are left by archival remnants of the times once shared. When Meghan and Marie Perry created Ex Boyfriend Jewelry, they only thought of things like engagement rings, necklaces and earrings. As they quickly realized, jewelry isn't the only stuff that's left behind when relationships go wrong. As a result, they created this website.

While Ex Boyfriend Jewelry almost exclusively deals with former relationships, Stuff That's Left Behind features items left behind in any situation. A recent post on the blog boasts about the stuff that was left behind from a previous apartment leaser. Another post discusses a double papasan chair, and a third post describes tattoos inked on during a relationship. This website is part humor, part empathy, and of course part catharsis. With a submittal form to describe your own stuff that's been left behind from a previous relationship (chewing gum from your first kiss, stray hairs from your first love, movie stubs, pets, receipts), you too can immortalize the stuff that's left behind from your previous relationships.

I keep everything, but earlier this year, I moved in with my fiancé (who also keeps everything) and we felt it was time to edit our collection of stuff that's left behind. I threw away old dried flower petals, ticket stubs, receipts, letters, photographs and more. During this period, I also found the stuff that was left behind from him - when we were in high school. You see, we were high school sweethearts separated by our parents when they believed we were too serious about one another. I saved all of the photographs, notes passed back and forth during class, jewelry, and even a feather pen he had made out of a pen and two parakeet feathers for me (I've always been a writer). Years later, after reconnecting with him I was glad I had all of these mementos for us to gander at and laugh over.

It's not always the case that a person is happy when they find the stuff that's left behind. After all, we've all had our share of bumps and scratches in the dating world. When you find that first note from the jerk that left you for another chick you might growl in your mind - especially when it says "Hey, you're cute, wanna go out?" It might not be clear why you save this stuff - but there's an audience for your misery.

The most exciting stuff that's left behind are things like journals or photographs of previous owners. Many television sit-coms and movies have been based around a character happening upon the journal of a previous owner and her adventures (or mis-adventures).

Whatever has been left behind, you can tell the story over at Stuff that's Left Behind.

It's true how much stuff accumulates in a relationship. I love that your fiance made you a pen with parakeet feathers. That's precious!
