Stuffy Head Blues

Tony Payne
This cold has hit me really bad
I'm totally congested
I took my medications
But my head feels disconnected

I loath this fuzzy feeling
When you just can't concentrate
And working is a nightmare
I could really use a break

I'm taking pills and potions
Which I hope will fend it off
I hate it when my nose runs
And it really hurts to cough

I'm sitting in the office
Just trying to think of work
But I really just can't focus
And it's driving me berserk

I wish I was just back at home
And lying in my bed
All snug and warm and fast asleep
Dreams running through my head

I could drift off to Florida
And catch some summer sun
Some warm thoughts might just stop this cold
And send it on the run

But no I'm sitting here at work
With lots of jobs to do
The minutes pass so slowly
As I try to think things through

About the only thing
That I can think of at this time
Is putting pen to paper (proverbially)
And jotting down this rhyme

So if like me you have a cold
And disconnected head
Don't go to work, just call in sick
And spend the day in bed

Don't I know it, doing my best to get it as cleared up as possible tonight. We are entertaining friends Saturday night.

Too bad you have to be sick for the weekend, you'll probably get better just in time to go back to work on Monday. ;-)

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I managed to get off work an hour early, my head just filled up to the point where I couldn't focus on work.

I always call in sick :-) No point contaminating the rest of the office.

Feel better, it happens to all of us!

I actually have a cold and did just get out of bed. True advice. Nicely done!

Clever poem... and the perfect counterpoint to a piece I wrote a month ago called "Joys of the Common Cold." I was lucky enough to have the luxury to call in sick and stay home!

Tony, too many people do not heed your wise advice in the last stanza! This causes the cold to last longer and to spread to other co-workers!

Sentiments with which anyone can relate- we've all been there at one time or another.
