Stumped for a White Elephant Gift?

White Elephant Gift Ideas

So you're going to a Christmas party at which the traditional game of "White Elephant" will be played. And now you're at a loss as to what to bring. Traditionally "White Elephant" parties have a theme; such as movies, over the hill, gag and pranks, Hawaiian, etc. Other times, and this is not so much a theme as it is a restriction, there is no set theme but rather a spending cap; such as no gifts that cost over $10.

I have been to many "White Elephant" parties, and the gag and prank gifts always make the parties more fun. But a good rule of thumb is to have a few decent gifts that way people will be more inclined to trade or "steal" as it's called in the game. Here are just a few suggestions to bring to your next "White Elephant" party. These are sure to get a laugh, if not start a brawl.

White Elephant Gift Ideas:

Adult Footsie Pajamas- You know those cute little one-sies for babies? Well, now they come in adult sizes! There's fleece, flannel, cotton, and cashmere. Comfy, funny, what's not to love?

Anti-motivational posters- Great sayings like "Success…a 'C' gets a degree" and "Friends…There is No I in Drunk". There are tons of options and all are hilarious.

Christmas themed bowl gifts- Such as a farting Santa Claus, Yule doo Christmas ornament, Poo-pooing holiday candy dispensers…and trust me lots lots more.

Bumper stickers- now you could go with average bumper stickers (political, patriotic, sports related…the standard sticker). Or better yet, wrap up a few that say things like: "Hooker for Hire", "I suffer from (fill in the blank)", "I stop for adult bookstores".

Twisted Fortune Cookies- a twist on both the traditional Christmas treat and the traditional fortune cookie, these reveal fortunes such as, "You should have stayed in bed"

Vintage Toys- Now I don't mean vintage like expensive. I mean vintage like still readily available but packed with memory. Examples being hula-hoops, care bears, pogo sticks, jacks and marbles, pick-up sticks, kites etc.

Gift Cards- These would fall more in the truly wanted category. But like I said, something's got to get the game going. Think of stores at which a small monetary amount will go far. Places like, well there aren't too many these days, but Starbucks, Coffee Bean, or your local movie theatre are possibilities.

An actual white elephant- with the popularity of this game there is a plethora of literal white elephant gifts. I have seen ornaments, ties, figurines, coat hangers, even lamps.

This and That- These are random but really fun. The Love Voodoo Kit, Ant Farms, Blacklight Paint Set, Chemistry Set, action figures, chia pets…

Food/ beverages- who wouldn't want free food? This could be as simple as a re-gifting a fruitcake you've received, or as extravagant as a Hickory Farms gift basket. Think jams and jellies; cheese wine, and crackers; cookies and hot cocoa… there really are no limits to this category.

Over the Hill- think Mr. Rodgers, and Mrs. Rodgers, if there had been one. Grandpa sweaters, slippers, robes… Or make it a joke and give face creams, hemroid cream, and other items stereotyped for the aging.

No matter what the theme or circumstance of the party, don't stress. The idea is to have fun. Remember, "White Elephant" is about the playing of the game not the gift you walk away with.
